In this jump'n'run you play Ristar, a star who can stretch his arms and grab enemies.
Gameplay:
It's a typical jump'n'run that means you jump and walk around but the special thing in this game is the Ristar, who can (have to) stretch his arms to reach projections and to beat enemies. This element with the stretching arms is a cool and one of a kind element, I've never found in another game. You also have special poles where you can get swing and speed through the levels (posted screenshot). The enemies are very simple except the boss fights. The first few boss fights are simple but then they get very hard and especially the last boss is a hard alien which is hard to beat when you don't know how.
Graphic/Levels:
Ristar is the best looking game I played so far on Genesis. The graphic is very good but it's getting pulled down because the levels aren't very unique or inventive. Some of them have good ideas (the music level, the snowbal fight or the boss fight in front of an audience (posted screenshot)) but they aren't thought to the end and are very inconsistent.
That's very unfortunate because there are so many good level concepts but they are incomplete. A thing worth mentioning is: in some levels are just a few enemies and you have to solve riddles. That's a nice thing and so you're not doing the same all the time.
Sound:
The sound of Ristar isn't very good. That's another unfortunate thing because the mostly weak levels could be a bit better with a good sound and music but the tunes aren't very memorable and they don't stay with you.
Conclusion:
Ristar is a jump'n'run with a cool idea of a star who have to grab the enemies and his environment and has a good difficulty which keeps getting harder. The levels have good basic ideas but they are inconsistent and the normal sound just doesn't stay with you.
Ristar has some weaknesses but in the end it's a good game for Genesis with an one of a kind concept.

Have you beaten the game yet? I think some of the music is pretty memorable.

DarthDub : Yes, I beat the game. I always start writing a review when I finished the game. I think it's okay when you like the music but in my opinion it's just okay and not memorable.
