I'm 99% sure I'll be switching to a dual boot Mac whenever I get my next computer or laptop. Windows crashed on me earlier this week and it just seems to go down too often.

Why do you say you'd use Linux before buying a Mac? Mac's are very stable from what I understand.

Its alot easier to get windows programs to run on linux than on Mac (apparently).

What is the other side of the boot going to be, mac/windows?

OK, going along with what you all are saying....

The latest Mac OS is stable like a rock, as it is basically a Gui built on a Linux Shell.

BUT you pay a heavy premium for Mac computers, getting better bang for your buck with 3rd party hardware.

My opionion?

Well I don't know why you have all these problems with windows. Personally the only problems I've seen in the last two years ARE from people being stupid (spyware, not adequite protection) AND running Bootlegged copies of windows.

Linux is good and free and you could try it.

It's not bootleg, I keep my spyware and anti-virus up to date. The first time I have no idea what happened and I had to reformat this past spring. Then around a month ago I'm pretty sure I got that system32/config/system files are missing error. Then last week I got the same thing. I did a bit of searching and it seems it just happens for no reason and there is no fix only work arounds.

But yeah dual boot Mac and Windows. That way if I need windows for something then I could use it.

Though I may give Linux a shot. Can anybody give me some resources for Linux, like where I can find some screen shots and plugins that could help with compatibility.

Get a Mac. I've never had system error messages. Sure, you'll have to work around the 'not all programs from Windows runs on a Mac,' but it's a Mac, not Windows.

My Mac runs the same as it did when I bought it, over a year ago.

And it's SO much easier to use. ^-^

As long as you aren't using an ATI driver or an Nvidia driver I'd say swhich to Linux. OpenGL binary for ATI and Nvidia are both messed up, you'd have to build them manualy. I think I'd get a mac... but my uncles crashed twice. I have not objection with mac other then it cost a lot of money and is unlikely to run on a PC. I'm running Debian GNU/Linux Experimental, and its running stable. I just have to remember not to brake anything and there will be not problem.

And yes, you can run MS Office on Linux (I would I just can't find my MS Office disks). Theres a 3rd party program called wine, it can run MS Office all the way to World of Warcraft. To run WoW you need to compile it manualy due to needing to patch it to work with fglrx (Linux build for OpenGL).

Ps. Don't resort to using Vista, Mac is much better and will have less problems. Vista is just trying to mimic Mac and doing a pour job of it. And lastly Vista is going to have as many problems as XP, because Microsoft are idiots for not allowing you to login as system. <-- the reason there are so many problems in Windows.

I can agree with you one one thing, Microsoft are idiots
But im not going to resort to Mac or Linux. If I have to format, it just shows the importance of backups.

Theres a way to repartition without formating... I just can't remember what tool will do it.

Do you mean do the 'reinstall XP over itself' sorta thing?
That usually fixes the problem.

My XP SP2 is bunged up. It can never find drivers, I have to find the driver files manually.

Reinstalling XP over itself cause problems and leaves errors from the previous install.

Ps. I forgot to mention earlier, you are unlikely to pull of dual booting mac and windows on the same box; due to diffrent internal fan ports and other diffrences.
