I am going to start a music company in the near future I have talked to some like-minded people via vizzed and I would expect a few of you may have made a website before I really need help with wordpress just understanding it is hard enough for me! But I wont give up and thats why I am asking ....... begging , for help. So please endow me with your vast knowledge of website building thank you and any help will be greatly appreciated!

I appreciate DB referring me, but I actually just checked Wordpress out after seeing this, and do not have much experience with it. I do however go to a popular site that uses it, and am currently self teaching myself some coding, (html, a lil' bit of CSS). The first thing I would do is read the Documentation here: http://codex.wordpress.org/Main_Page -documentations always are a great way of getting things going, and providing you with basic info on how to go about making it.

It should have enough info to start you of.
For sites for examples/info on html/CSS i refer you to:

I did download & install it to mess with it. Jigsaw might be of more help as he is actually a developer of sorts.

Music company eh? I would suggest making your own website from scratch instead of using wordpress if you're serious making a music company. And you should also be prepared to spend some money for promoting and stuff.

I'm somewhat familiar with WordPress. Depends on what you need to know.

I can recommend some other CMS if you prefer.

thanks everyone your comments and links are helping and michael vashh this may sound stupid and simple to others familiar with website building ect but I already own a .co.uk address could I use that for wordpress I'm assuming that it will need to one build a website on correct ?

mikezzbike : You need to use your own server to run your Wordpress with it's own domain, though you could put a redirect on the domian you have to your Wordpress URL.

If you sign up for wordpress you have the option of using it on the Wordpress servers or downloading your own copy and putting it on a server you own. If you don't have a server but have a URL your only option is to put a redirect on the URL to direct the user to the wordpress address.

I believe wordpress urls are either: .wordpress.com or wordpress.com/

So if I didnt host it myself would my music business' web site name come under this www.wordpress.org/mymusiccompanynamehere ?? I am still unsure but I am getting there lol this is what I have so far:
1. download wordpress
2. get a domain name and hosting (1and1)
3. make a database using mysql

BUT I still dont understand how to make a data base its like a different language to me, but I will get there with the right advice and help ext

No experience in WP, but if you want your own site its a lot better to not use programs like that unless you dont have the knowledge or money to make your own site from scratch.

If you want something done right do it yourself the hard way Making your own path is better then following someone elses. This doesnt help you at all but what can I say, I like to think in negatives.

mikezzbike : Wordpress makes the DB, you just have to create it and other stuff. Honestly if you don't know how to do all that you'd be better off hiring someone to set it up. It's nothing difficult but if you don't understand it can be tricky and confusing.

As for that host, I'm not sure. You have to keep a few things in mind.

1 How much bandwidth is offered?
2 Do you want to use a shared server (cheaper) or VPS (virtual private server, bit more expensive but faster). Shared generally have unlimited though slow bandwidth, VPS are generally much faster but have some limit of bandwidth placed on them. Dedicated are out there too, but are generally cost about x10 as much (say $250 or more per month USD)
3 Does the host have SSL? IF you are using Paypal it's pointless to have SSL.
4 Important as well, how is their support and how much uptime do they guarantee?
5 Do you know CSS? Are you ok with using a freely available theme or buy or pay someone for a theme if not?

You'd probably be better off talking to me on AIM or something so we can figure this stuff out. Your host and CMS choice is the most important part of your site for something like this. If you want to chat about it my AIM is MichaelVash7886 just let me know who you are.

Additionally you don't need another domain name with your host as you said you had one.
