I'll give my view to both sides of the issue. I personally have no opinion.

Yes; games cost a fortune to make and it's a good way for the company to make extra money.

No; advertisments can spoil a game and take your mind off the enjoyment

For those of you who dont know, some video games now days to have advertisements in them already.

I think the PS3 is trying to do this. That's what I've heard.

I'm indifferent as well, because I wouldn't consciencly notice the ad.

That's the point, you're not really supposed to notice them much. For the same reason many incorperated subliminal messages. Since they're not allowed to do that anymore, they just do this. I'm mostly against it. Great for them making money for these games, but I don't really agree with the way they do it. I just don't think I would run things the same way, even if it's easier. I see the ads and I think "money grubber".

I can understand it in those free online games, but most places take out those ads when you've paid for it.

Just an opinion from my naturally paranoid brain.

If it's a NFL, MLB, or NBA game or something like Tony Hawk or Spiderman 2 where you are supposed to be in an actual city like New York then I don't mind advertisements. If it's a game like Mario or Rachet and Clank, or a game like Burnout where you are in made up cities then I say no, not real advertisements.

But yeah like I say I think the PS3 is trying to take this to the next level, forgot how though.

I said no... only because the most common of advertisement fails... Like in car games they just advertise cars... but its not like playing them actually makes me want one of them...
But i suppose... SOME advertising can be ok... But if it goes to far... takes focus away from the game. It just gets kinda stupid...

One of the unlocks for path of neo, is you have to throw smith into a certain building near the end of game.

Personaly, i think its the game that its in that depends wether it should be there or not.
If you are playing a sport game, there should be advertisements, because there really at the sporting events. But the last thing i want to see master cheif do is slam down a nice cool refreshing coke. Smooth...

See what i mean?

EDIT : IT'd be funny in the path of neo, if there was a cut sceen, and it had 3 agent smiths going, Bud.. Wiz... ER...

Think about it.

For every hour per day that you watch television, you're watching 8,000 commercials per year. That's assuming you only see about 22 commercials an hour. That's very conservative.

Time the next commercial you watch. It's about... 30 to 45 seconds, right? Multiply that by 8,000. That's three days straight worth of commercials... EVERY HOUR. Do you enjoy the fact that you're wasting three days a year JUST WATCHING COMMERCIALS?

Now, lets look at videogames...
Commercials on television cost hundreds of dollars for that 30-45 second spot, and that's on just one channel of the hundreds of channels that exist on prime time, cable, sattelite, and other forms of television and radio broadcast. Depending on the time of year, that figure doesn't even count the resources it takes to film, hire actors, do computer animations and all that other junk... And usually, the expected audience for the time slot (such as the super bowl) raises the cost of the commercial into the thousands...

Videogames, such as Halo3, will be played OVER AND OVER for the next few decades at least. Some people still plug in their old Atari 2600s and play PitFall. Wouldn't you just love it if you saw a TAB COLA commercial eat up three to thirty seconds of your life, every time you booted up your Atari? TAB COLA doesn't even EXIST anymore, as far as I care.

Wouldn't Super Mario have been great if you got to bowser's dungeon and it advertised the BRAND NEW Commodore 64 for just 700$?

You'd simply love to play Pokemon Snap if every time you started the console, you saw a Tampon commercial, oh, and then a commercial for Girl's sneakers and a few different maxi pad commercials. And you COULDNT SKIP THEM.

Where does it stop?

I don't mind if McDonalds makes a game that features kids that jump around collecting spinning golden M's. I don't mind if Dominoes makes a game called "Avoid the Noid", so I can avoid the game. Heck, I might even BUY a game that advertised some modern day products, just for entertainment value.

But if we let commercials creep into our games, there will be nothing left of our souls.
Thank you gentlemen, and have a nice day. Now, a word from our sponsor.

Heh. But you know, other than that, I laugh when I see ads in commercials. And then I vow to never ever buy that product.

I think your taking it abit over the top there Lowell. Its more so, like the warthog billboard in halo 2, any halo 2 fans know the map im talking about.

Or the signs you go past in racing car games... There the adds i was talking about, seemless adds.. What were all you on about??

An Aussie guy sold his working idea, to have adds auto update during games. So you dont always have the coca-cola on the side wall in some baseball games (im just guesing... but there are adds there), the adds will automaticly download. He sold this for US$300,000,000

I don't think that's what Davideo was talking about. Not ads for fake in-game products, but ads for companies that will go out of business soon after the production companies market the game due to worldwide boycott.

Yeah but it depends on the game... Racing games and almost every sport game.. well thats ok because they are usually the sponsers of the actual sport and those actual teams, it brings reality to gaming...

Advertising in SSBB, Halo 3 and stuff like that is just taking it to far...

Videogames have a target audience. When they are scouting for potential advertisers in their games, they would definitely consider their target audience in order for product placement to reach it's maximum potential.

Guys would prefer, in my opinion, a game where you actually get to attack people with your pokemon. Taking pictures is for girls. That's what American Media dictates, at least. That, and my ex-girlfriend and her two sisters had that game. I've never known a guy to have that game who didn't have a sister that played it more often.

imho

yeh true.
As for games with target audiences, some adds are just for the company... I dont think it effects me if i see an add for bungie or whatever in halo 2, if it was there.

Vizzed.com is very expensive to keep alive! The Ads pay for the servers.

Vizzed has 3 TB worth of games and 1 TB worth of music.  This site is free to use but the ads barely pay for the monthly server fees.  If too many more people use ad block, the site cannot survive.

We prioritize the community over the site profits.  This is why we avoid using annoying (but high paying) ads like most other sites which include popups, obnoxious sounds and animations, malware, and other forms of intrusiveness.  We'll do our part to never resort to these types of ads, please do your part by helping support this site by adding Vizzed.com to your ad blocking whitelist.
