We read stuff all the time, the majority of it may shock us or teach us something useful like Math, but there are some books that one may read that literally put your life on to another path.

Feal the Fear and Do it Anyway

you don't of course have to list a 'self help' book, these were just my suggestion.
Satre definately impacted on me from the things I read by him.
