Allright, this is a remake of a remake and well... it's Crap...
Where do I start...
The game itself!
This game is watered down!!! No... it had Oil spilt on it... ... Everything from the battle animations to the soundtrack is a crap version of something that used to be good... There are glitches, such as voices turn silent on the GBA after about a second or two... they bloated chibified the battle sprites so they don't even look even a LITTLE human anymore and everything about it is awfull...
I'll get to the Translations in a second...
Ok The Graphics... The SNES version had some of the greatest graphics of all time (next to Donkey Kong, Chrono Trigger, Axelay and Super Mario RPG). There were Reflections and ripples in the water, birds flying everywhere, everything looked downright real, and everything was awesome!!!
... On the GBA version, the Chibis became both brighter colored, AND duller... for some reason everything just feels lifeless and boring, there is almost no detail anywhere, no birds, and just general badness... ... Bloated Chibis bug me... ... They made Cle...Cress fat...
~~~
Next up on our list today... the music
On the SNES we had the most Beautiful music of any SNES game ever... Hell, we had SINGING!! Everything kicked ass and it was just general awesomeness! I was suprized my SNES emulator was capable of playing something of that quality, let alone my computer speakers!
On the GBA version, everything was LAME. O_o MY GOD I HATE IT... apparently there is no Battle Theme on the GBA, either... They removed the Jpop intro song (which I liked so much that I threw in my profile... actually that's the PSX ending theme, but whatever...) and just general baditized it...
~~~
(I'll get to the translations in a sec)
Now for the gameplay... It's pretty similar, except that the battles are about 100 times SLOWER and the battles are also about 100 times more FREQUENT!!! They added some skills, which was nice... but overall it was just lame and lousy and I hate it and *grinds teeth* IT'S NOT THE SAME! *sobs*
~~~
Ok as for the story... well it's the story... it was awesome as hell on the SNES and it's awesome as hell on the GBA... even though they removed some of the funnier scenes to be able to stamp the E for Everyone lable on the game...
~~~
Allright... The Translations...
OH...
MY...
GOD!!!!!
1. You should be able to tell right from the first 2 seconds of turning on the game that they f***ed up because the main character's name now has an R in it... Cress... it was Cless before... Come on Namco, you can do better than that...
2. They removed most of the jokes in the game because those jokes before were sexual... they replaced them with horrible puns, in a Final Fantasy 6, fasion...
3. And here's the Clincher... Apparently Namco did the bad translations on PURPOSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dejap, the company that made the wonderful translation of the SNES version, offered FOR FREE the official translation for the North American version of the GBA ToP... Namco gave a flatout "Lol No..."
...
I find myself hating Soul Calibur 3 now, because of that...
They f***ed up everything from the names of attacks, to the names of items, hell they even f***ed up the names of characters...
I give the Translations a big wag of the finger, for I totally hate them.

Final Review:
Tales of Phantasia for the GBA is an awful, vile, piece of s*** that should not be played unless you don't have a computer, and even then you still shouldn't play it.
If you want a handheld GBA ToP then go find an SNES emulator for the PSP... and Dejap's translation, of course...
Graphics: 3/10
Music: 2/10
Gameplay: 1/10
Story: 10/10 ... but whatever...
Localization/Translation 0/10...
Final Score for the GBA Version 2/10
Do not play this game... If you buy this game for yourself you are retarded... if your friends and family get this for you, they hate you... If you find it on the street, then destroy it, and then cut off your hands if you accidentally get some on you... Allright, this is a remake of a remake and well... it's Crap...
