I live in Florida. Two prominent bands have come out of here in the last decade. The first was Limp Bizkit. I wish Fred Durst would die in a fire, so no shameless plug for them. The second band was Shinedown. These guys came out of nowhere and worked really hard. I went from watching them perform in small bars here in Jacksonville to playing big arena shows. Now, they tour with legends. While not all of their music is great, Brent Smith tries to make sure his fan base can relate to what he sings about as often as possible.

Other than those two, Florida doesn't produce a lot of quality bands. Sad but true. People come here to pay homage to the Mouse, retire, and die. Not a lot of interest in doing the rock and roll thing here.

As a New Yorker, there's always somebody trying to become famous rapping or making a band so there's tons of underground rock bands/unknown rappers.

One that comes to mind is a guy that looks like Eminem and is a rapper, his name is Sean Strange. He must be pretty successful, he's traveling the world for performances, and he recently come out with a new CD that could be found in music stores.

He's actually the boyfriend of one of my really close good long time friends.

One local band in my area that deserves more is 180out. They're a local Christian band who in fact are a father, son and daughter group. They have managed to play at concerts for other popular Christian artists such as Seventh Day Slumber and Stellar Kart. As to how far 180out's career may go depends on how they feel God leads them --they are still a family and the son and daughter are in school).

I live near Vancouver, so the music scene is huge and we have a radio station that plays mostly indie and/or local bands, which is awesome. Every time I listen, I hear something I've never heard before that I like. Well, mostly every time, except for this one month where they played this awful song over and over every day and I couldn't stand it. Oh well.
