This is an ongoing debate for me, where I am there are loads of boxes for recycling, I was told by some authority people that although the customer may separate glass and plastic etc, if they are overwhelmed with supply they just dump it all together on the same pile. I was also told that it takes more carbon to recycle some things than to make new ones as they were not designed properly to be recycled in the first place.

I was even told a Prius because of the batteries involved is more harmful to make and thereofre to run on the planet than a 20 year old Jag and I am not making this up.

So I thought okay lets not recycle and just re-use!

That means that we take bottles and jars to the supermarket to be refilled. We don;t need packaging for things like fruit and veg, just a box so thats easy.

Milk can go in bottles that can be washed.

Water comes out of the tap so no need to spend there and we can all buy refillable bottles.

Nuts can go in jars.

and we can carry butter in greaseproof paper that lasts for years of useage.

What ideas do you have?

Perhaps we can then do away with recycling altogether.

One last point, all the white goods that are recycled make me really angry, there is no need to recycle a fridge, oven, washing machine as in the past they made them stronger or like televisions with parts that can be easily serviced and fixed, this meant therefore that we had more jobs by employing engineers to service them and a machine could last forever, now maintenance is a lot more healthy to the environment than making a machine that A rated and that is a Totts fact, unles you know better.
