Landfill, burning of rubbish, dumping it at sea or send it into space are all viable alternatives.

We are encouraged to recycle, but why do they use so much packaging in the first place. I would rather not recylce but re-use glass jars, straw bags and metal containers.

If we re-used packaging rather than recycling it we would truly dave the planet.

We used to re-use milk bottles, soda bottles, water bottles, pickles cam in a barrel and nuts in a glass jar or refillable can.

In some ways I do feel that recycling is a waste of time. I do appreciate trying to save the planet, but If people realized how much pollution is caused by a lot of recycling plants, you might change your mind about how beneficial recycling is.

I don't.I actually have diffrent trash cans in my house to seperate the non recyclable trash and the stuff that I can recycled.I care about how our enviornment will be in the future.

I do, I recycle whenever the chance. We usually have trash cans loaded with things that can be recycled.

It doesn't really take much effort to recycle and it's much better than just throwing stuff away in the trash. People spend their time on much less positive tasks.

I reuse and recycle everything where possible. There is no reason to be wasteful. Burning, landfills and filling the ocean with trash cause much more pollution than a recycling plant. I can't believe you would actually consider dumping in the ocean an "alternative" to recycling??

its not that difficult, in uk they have 2 boxes as well as bins that are collected, one box is for cardboard and one for cans/glass, its no more difficult than putting the stuff right in the main bin.Also it provides more jobs because someone needs to collect it and break it down.Plus the government makes money off it because they sell the materials back to other companys.yes it takes energy to recycle but it takes energy to make in the first place too.
as for disposing of it its not a good idea.You make bio degradable plastics, theyre gone for ever, not good.you put it in the ocean itl kill much of the wildlife, not good.you burry it, you destroy the land and make it unusuable, in some countrys theyv had to dig them up and rebury it because they needed the land.
sending it into space, do you know how much junk there is already floating in space?theyve got computers that need to permanently moniter all that junk, every time a space shuttle goes up that junk can take it out.plus it takes a lot of energy to fire it up there, and theres no getting it back.
if we keep firing all the stuff up there that would change the mass of the planet, whats to stop earth swinging off into the sun or another planet?maybe the moon will start orbiting another planet?
burning is a really bad idea, especially plastics, plus that can kill humans too.

It can get annoying if your don't separate everything right away but if you put it in the recycling bin right away its not that hard.and doesn't waste your time.it takes less then one min too open the door and throw it in the bin.

Nope, no way! Recycling (as far as I'm aware) is a good thing. We have a recycling bin provided by the council...we just throw our cans and bottles in there and they are taken away with the garbage each week. I don't see how not-recycling is a better choice, unless someone can prove that recycling is harmful to the environment.

It's both good and bad. The good thing about it it that there would be less waste and that the things that are recycled get used to make other things. The bad thing about it is that it is a waste of material that you can use it for making thing ect, but then again it is good for the environment.

The way i think about it, i just try not to buy too much of anything in the first place. That way, I don't have to recycle much. When i do have to recycle stuff, though, i don't mind it. I don't think it's really all that much of a nuisance when you only have to do it every now and then.

No I don't think recycling is a waste of time. As a matter of fact we're recycling beer cans right now. Sometimes I think it is a wast of time because the recycling man don't come and get the cans when he is susposed to. Other than that I don't think recycling is a waste of time.

absolutely not, i think recycling is the best, least harmful way to destroy and reuse some of our garbage, safe the landfills and burning and sending it to space for the stuff we cant recycle.

Waste of time!? Could be true, but you should always recycle because it keeps the environment clean and can reuse things that we recycle to save money, save energy, and save life.

It might be a waste of time. But I think its great to recycle when You can because it's one of the things that keeps our environment healthy and safe!

No recycling is not a waste of time, and whoever thinks that is a total noob. Everyone in world should recycle more than usual cause it could make things a little more convienent and lots of thing would be less consumable.

We have a lot of trash that cannot go back into the earth, recycling takes care of the garbage that can't go back into the earth.  This way we don't have loads of garbage all over the place.

I use both recycling and re-using of the non decomposing garbage.

I recycle, but I'm not one of those people that's a Nazi about it. Truth is that some recycling methods pollute the atmosphere horribly, so I'm not sure which is worse. It's sort of the lesser of two evils argument. lol
