Well I just found RPG maker 2000 a few nights ago, and since then I have been playing alot of the games available on http://gamingw.net/games/rpg/?

So recently I've been thinking more and more about making a game my self. I have the RPGM2K and the English RTP for it, but I don't know the first thing about putting it all together. I have a good tutorial that I found but I need help with making sprites and putting pictures and sounds and such into it.

I was planning on making a X-men based game, I know it can be done (see the Batman thread) if someone wouldn't mind taking the time would anyone be able to maybe walk me through it on MSN messenger or lead me to a better tutorial that will tell me how to create my own characters, cutscenes and the works.

For a first project, I suggest you making a little test game, with none of the graphics being made by you, this will by you sometime to get use to the program. Soon as your ready and skilled to make a game, than I'd recommend you make most of the graphics yourself (or atleast have someone else make them that is workign on the game with you).

As for help, I'm not skilled with RM2000 so I couldn't really help you, but I'm sure someone else on the board may help you out.

A little FYI, there are 2 more recent RPG Makers, RPG Maker 2003 and RPG Maker XP. There's also a older one called RPG Maker 95 which is the easiest to use of all of them.

Yeah I've heard of the other three makers also. But I didn't want to use 95 because it has even worse graphics and such then the 2000 version. And the 2003 and XP I read are extremly hard to figure out.

As for starting with a test game that's a given, I wasn't planning on trying to start my project first.

My only problem is I have no idea about any of this stuff, but I'd really like to learn.

As a matter of fact, RPG Maker 95 has better resolution than 2000 and 2003. It may not have good menu graphics, but the rest of teh graphics are better in RPG Maker 95 compared to 2000 and 2003.

The next 3-D, RPG maker for the PS2 just is coming out. Its weak because it has no online sharing or anything. They need to make one for the 360... That would own all. Or have it so you can download Oblivion mods from your pC that you or somone else made.

I agree, you should consider using RM95 as an alternative. If nothing else because there are more people on this thread who'd be able to help you

Well I checked out some of the RM95 and I think the graphics are much better on the 2k. Especially with all of the cool menus and such.

I've gathered so far from you're guy's posts that you can't help me with the 2k then? Can you guys think of anyone else I could deal with?

Dosnt PS2 and 360 have USB ports? even better, 360 has wireless stuff .

Im goen to uni in 07 to make games. This years porject was to make a PS2 game. It was alrite, not as good as rainbow 6 or anythen.. but it was better then a sharp stick in the eye.

If i were ever to make a game making program on 360 (hopefully) or ps2/ps3 (i'd shoot myself before that happes... na there not that bad) id make sharing a must.

I used to have rm2k , and rm2k3. The main thing rm2k3 has over rm2k is the battle thing. If i were to DL them , i could write ya a quick tutorial, if u were to give me a breif outline of what your wanting to do. That is if i DL them.

Well I know what I want to do but I have no knowledge of how to do it. I need to know everything. How to put my wallpaper into the menu. How to set up battle animations and character portraits. How to rig cutscenes and how to create sprites in the image of whatever character I want to use for my RPG.

So basically I don't know the first thing about how to get started. Once I know how to do it I can do the game my self.

yea i was the same way as you wheni first started well actually i had the 2 that came out on ps1 and ps2 bought those same day and that was this year (sorry rembering is wierd) and then like 3 months ago (maybe) i downloaded rm2k,rk3,and XP wich XP had just come out and i was eager to use. So of course i started on XP and it had some bugs, idk what kind but it kept telling me that the game was corrupted so i delted it being pissed and went to 2k and 2k3 and i still wasnt good at making stuff couse id onyl had Xp going for a few days and i went to 2k and it was easy but not so great batlle system so i decided to use 2k3 and i was so confused at first that i went online and type in Rpg maker 2003 tutorials and i found evryhting i needed but evrynow and then ur gonna have a problem and its best to try and figure it out on your own so next time u come up agaisnt it ull no exactly what tp do but my advice to you is to Search for this stuff heres what i type in;

get my drift and even tho i do that stuff i still have to search all the time.
