They haven't finished mapping it out, and they will not finish it for a long long time. However, they already have plans for using such things, like to cure previously uncurable diseases and help remedy birth defects. I don't think that they will do the whole genetically engineered superbabies because that would be too much, and everyone would want one but only the rich could afford it... and it would just cause one big mess, so I highy doubt that they would permit such things.

Actually the movie Gattaca is all about this. As far as making "super" babies, I really hope they don't start that or even thinking about it. After all isn't part of being human working at something to get beter? I mean what is the point if you don't have to work at it?

I think that using this information to cure stuff like birth defects is bad news. Take steven Hawkins for example, If his parents had known before hand that he was going to contract whatever disease he has and had tried to cure it then there is a chance that he could have died in the process. If that had happened one of the most brilliant minds on our planet would have died before being able to use that mind.

They have recently found they can do stuff they'd do with stem cells, without actualy using stem cells from an embrio. The catholic church has come out and said they are supporting this new technology stuff as its not making lives just to destroy them. Good news for the human race I guess.
