Well, I did it! 50,000 words (and a little extra) in 30 days. Admittedly, my PS2 is very lonely, and the letters E, S, and I have worn off of my keyboard - and I'll probably be recovering from a month of sleep-dep for the next few days, but I won!

Please explain more.... what exactly did you win?

NaNoWriMo is an annual event where you are challenged to write a 50,000 word work of fiction in 30 days - 1,667 words a day on average.

As a winner, I won a 50,000 word first draft of a mostly coherent story (some of the parts written on short sleep are less coherent than others :] ) a shiny web badge (which I unfortunately can't attach here) and a printed certificate saying that I managed to crank out a minimum of 1,667 words per day for thirty days. I can also get a proof copy from CreateSpace between Dec 2 and June 30, which gives me plenty of time to edit.

oh, that doesn't sound too difficult to me, but I imagine if I tried to do it that I would find it a lot tougher.

So I guess I'll congratulate you on that. How many people win each year?

As of 6PM pacific time yesterday, there were 32,000 winners. No telling how many people trickled in between then and the midnight deadline - I think the staff is also recovering from a month without sleep

I got the official stats breakdown this morning:

* 200,530 participants, up 20% from 2009’s total of 167,150.
* We wrote a total of 2,799,449,947 words up 15% from 2009’s collective word count of 2,427,190,537.
* This averaged out to 13,960 words per person.
* We had 37,479 winners, up 16% from 2009’s total of 32,173.
* This gave us an 18.6% win rate!

M!cH@3l 001 : I have a feeling that 99 pages of Word document would probably be a tl;dr on most forums > Besides, it is a rough draft, and I'm going to be editing for a few months with an eye towards publication. I might toss a couple sample chapters up once I've polished them up a bit.

noelia : I'll admit, it can be difficult at times. I had to put most of my other hobbies on hold for a month. In a way, it's like running a marathon: there are points where you feel like your legs (fingers) are going to fall off, and there are times when you're just pounding along with this incredible high and the distance (word count) just flies by. Unlike a marathon, you don't have to spend months training for it, you don't have to wear those tiny little running shorts, and you can stop in the middle for coffee, doughnuts, or cheeseburgers. ;D

Oniya : Congrats on your accomplishment! It takes a lot of hard work and dedication to do that. Qualities I lack..especially when it comes to writing. You should post it here for us to read!
