Okay. Here's the story. I've been raised Christian my whole life, and decided to become Agnostic. The day I told my mom, she went, "I don't want something weird in my house!"

That's just a paraphrase. She has freaking gay friends, and somehow doesn't break her knee over something as simple as me not being Christian. I told her it was just believing there is a god. She got worse.

My dad's even worse. He seems to FORCE Christianity on me. He even went up to me one day asking if I listen to the death metal band Deicide. He put the fact that I heard one or two songs by them into a WWJD bracelet, basically. He then made me feel belittled by claiming I don't investigate. Problem? HE WAS WATCHING A TV SHOW ABOUT THE NEGATIVE ASPECTS OF DEATH METAL!

Now here's the biggest turn off towards Christianity as of now for me... My parents just going on about how I'm not coddling stuff placed in the Christian section of stores or not wanting to go to church... Coddle it yourself!

My parents are great, but good Odinn, why do my parents bother me about religion? I know they think it's best for me, but I actually was more depressive when I was a Christian. Odd...

Trust me. I know this. I could NEVER let my parents know I am an Atheistic Unitarian Universalist, they seem to hate me as it is. If I tried to explain to them what my faiths are, they would probably literally kill me. The other day, my dad said to the family how atheists are not human and they are immoral. Then he went on to bash almost everything I secretly believe in. It took all my willpower not to cry because I knew I could never tell them now.

So I have an idea what you are talking about. I'm sorry =(

It's pretty much what we have to do. If I don't I know they wouldn't understand... I hate how I have to hide almost all my life from my parents, simply because they wouldn't understand me. I am so angry that I am always in the background being that one guy that has to lie about his own beliefs.

None of my family members really care about religion, except my grandma but she's not THAT into it, so I can't feel your pain here. But I do agree that people shouldn't just make their kids be what religion they are. That's not right. But luckily my mom is understanding so if I told her I wanted to convert to being Jewish or Buddhist she'd be OK with it.

Thats rough. Don't let them change YOUR mindset, ever. Believe in what you want to, if they get sore over it, let them. It's your life, your choice.

Obligatory post by a Christian - not all of us are like that. There is this nifty commandment to love, and to do all that we do in a loving spirit. Of course, much here in the West that gets promulgated as "Christian" seems to lack this very idea. Not trying to raise hackles, but a society that that thinks hating anyone is demonstrating a Christ-like attitude needs to seriously reread the Gospels. My point is, I truly am sorry you have had to experience this. Just keep in mind this sort of behavior is not meant to be Christian norm.

Cyprian is right. I am a Christian too, but I'm what I suppose you'd call a loose Christian. I don't read the bible because it was written by man, not God. This gives it a bias from hell. I don't go to church because I don't need to be in a building with big crosses to pray. There are probably very few people out there like me, but not all Christian are as bad as your parents and any that are are not following the ways of a Christian. Christians are supposed to believe in love and acceptance. So you could technically argue that your parents are not being good Christians. (If that makes you feel any better then run with it. If not.....bleh.)

XxChaosxX : They aren't really utterly hateful. They're very loving, and accepting, but the problem is... They just feel so strong in their beliefs, and sometimes, it can lead to problems.
