I am what you would call a liberal republican, but it all comes down to this in my mind, America as a nation is failing we are getting deeper in debt and are so far in debt that we couldnt even break even if we tried, the freedom to speak are minds is gone and the freedom to be a american is gone i have lost faith in my country and it pains me to type that

I have a question thats sort of related to this if its in the wrong thread forgive me, but my question is dont you think we should get rid of the party system because it just makes everything in Washington a contest almost like a football game. If you agree with me pm or leave some comments on my profile page thanks

I tend to vote by individual candidate, not by party line. In the last election, I voted for a number of Independent and Green party candidates, a couple Democrats, and I believe there was a Republican in there who actually had the guts to put up an ad that didn't simply attack his opponent.

I am a republican; I prefer the government giving us the power to solve our own problems (most of the time). Obama may be a democrat, but he really hasn't done squat in office so far.

RideZeLitenin : So you want the government to have less power but you're criticizing Obama for not doing enough in office? Oh, I should state my party - I just say I'm Independent.

NotJon : I suppose I worded that like shiz. Anyways, what I was trying to state is that everybody was going for Obama during election because he's going to bring "great change" to America for the better. So far, all he's done is shut down GetMo and sign a bunch of bills. No, I'm pretty much glad Obama hasn't changed all of the things he's wanted to. It's just unreasonable that he promise a buttload of "change" that obviously can't all be done.

RideZeLitenin : Change takes time. Obama's big thing was health care and fixing the economy. He passed the stimulus and Health Reform. It's baby steps but at least he's going in the right direction.

NotJon : Whatever you say I suppose. It's all hard to judge still at this point. I don't really support the whole shutting down of Gitmo though. I suppose time is still needed for this decision as well too.

@RideZeLitenin your right change takes time but that health care bill is going to be the worse thing for our country its none of the governments business in my mind plus I dont want to pay for it cause it cost a ton of money we dont have thus furthering our countrys debt, and the stimulus was a joke hand out more money we dont have. As of yet Obama has failed his country and himself he's lucky that some redneck KKK group hasnt assisnated him yet.

The worst of the parties is republicans they are war profiteers. Eisenhower told us to stay away from the military industrial complex because it would eventually be the demise of this country. Dems are also bad, but they are at least more down to earth when it comes to fixing America.

The sad thing is people still vote... we all know its corrupt you cant have a nation split down the middle by color and expect it to change for the better. Abolish the term president and party and maybe we can fix the country based on ideas instead of celebrities who are red or blue.

This is like me voting between Yahoo & Google, both could care less about me so I just say screw you both I make the change myself!

Oniya : Thats the thing, people expect to change things with a vote (votes for people or parties instead of ideas). Just not going to happen. All the politicians state clearly after winning it will take help from you if you want change. If people want tax cuts or jobs they are going to have to not rely on their politicians to do it for them. I also can't stand the fact that these guys wasted millions in ads just to get in office, that shows you something is not right.

I can't blame Obama I don't have a job or blame him I'm not rich. Simply put, if I want a tax cut I'll just stop paying taxes, if I want a job I'll start my own Not as easy as it sounds but I'm trying.

I don't plan of fixing America, I'm not god or superman lol. But I'm trying to fix what I can in my industry of work. Small business is the future, that is where change will have to come from if we want to fix america.

Starting your own business is a great idea, as is working locally. Even better if you can organize more than just you to help in the endeavor. (Neighborhood Watch is a prime example). Skipping out on paying taxes can get you into some serious trouble later on, though. The IRS isn't like other bill collectors. I think they require garlic or something like that to drive them off.

"Abolish the term president and party and maybe we can fix the country based on ideas instead of celebrities who are red or blue."

Except it's not the elected officials that actually decide policy.... it's the advisors that are actually coming up with the ideas and the president and others just pick the idea they like the best....

I don't think politicians have had the people's interests at heart for a long time. Sure there are some that get into politics who are really trying to fix things.... but you can't beat the majority who have been bought or manipulated into working for someone else's agenda.

Following politics over the last 10 years proves to me that politicians aren't trying to fix the country but are trying to bankrupt it. How do you over-spend 3-4 trillion dollars over the last 3 years and claim it's helping the country?

Technically I would say I'm republican, but I'm not America so I can't vote Although even if I were American I don't know if I would at this point. I don't think the system can be fixed anymore.

geeogree : I agree. There's so much in America that's decided according to politics instead of according to what's best for the country.

Also, the people are too easily influenced by negative or positive ads. It seems that the candidate with the most money or the most power wins, instead of the Average Joe who has our best interests at heart.

As for myself, I don't lean one way or the other. When I consider who to vote for, I try to look for the candidate who doesn't follow the Status Quo, but rather his/her standards and morals.
