As for the shortest game ever (excluding educational games, online games, and fan-made games, etc.), I believe that the original Super Mario Bros. is a good candidate. With the many shortcuts inside of it, it can end in about 5 min.

One level, thirty stages. That's pretty much the gist of it, and you have to think creatively to beat the game. The title of the stage gives a hint on how to beat it, and every stage is different.
