Oh boy... this is going to cause some problems.

It was just announced that Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas has been stripped of its M rating by the ESRB and assigned a new rating of AO - the first time any console game has been given such a rating as far as I know. This is causing a HUGE ripple...

- All copies of the game currently on shelves must either be removed or re-rated from M to AO.
- A new version of San Andreas without the Hot Coffee mod will be produced and released, but only in the fourth quarter. This version will be rated M.
- Take Two's stock is going to tumble tomorrow, as they've had to downgrade their earnings forecasts due to this.
- Several stores, such as Wal-Mart, will likely be removing their copies of the game today or tomorrow.
- Take Two is considering legal action against Datel, the makers of Action Replay, for apparently "profiting" from changing around the content of the game. (This has a snowball's chance in hell IMO, because all a judge would have to do is refer to Nintendo vs. Galoob in the Game Genie case to shoot this down; and besides, it wasn't like Datel had inside knowledge about this.)

So... over/under for a new round of congressional hearings regarding game ratings? I say 3 months.

That's the way it should be, any game that has TOO much violent, or nudity, SHOULD have an AO rating...we have a sick society and we need to do somethin about it.

I understand where you're coming from, but why is this all happening in the first place? Some stupid bastard who never showers and picks his nose decided he can't take it anymore, so he shoots up his school and kills people that don't even talk to him.

I mean, whats the difference between "mature" and "adult only"? They mean the same general thing...and what the hell...you only have to wait one year to get it. No matter how many limitations they put on video game developers, kids are going to get a hold of the game anyway, because most clerks will sell it regardless of age.

But Rockstar isnt gunna let this be a AO rating, they want kids to be able to buy it...so its gunna be killed until they take the sex scene outta there

Her case is going nowhere because how could it be faslely advertised? Think about the name GRAND THEFT AUTO. What could that mean..................................................................? People come on. Learn about your kid or grandkid, don't you see the commercials on TV. Think a bit. Ask a store clerk, they might know something (at least if they don't work at Wal-Mart, although there are 2 or 3 there now that know a bit) This is what irratates me because we end up hearing stupid stories about people sueing company's, next we'll get a bunch of rubbish about violent games make people violent. They always neglect to mention that's if the person can't distinguish real from pretend. I mean these are the types of people who would take their 5 year old to see Saving Private Ryan, Kill Bill, (fill in any other really violent or whatever movies here). And this is the thing that does sorta scare me about people, because they either don't think or don't bother to think and or they have NO (emphasis on no I think) Common Sense (and like someone said you have to have sense before you can have common sense.. The best rule I know about this is if you don't know about something find someone who does. It seems that parents buying video games is like me going to buy a digital camera, I don't know all that much about them, but I know people who do (CNet.com). So therefore I did my research there. Sorry for the rant, but this is the type of stuff that ticks me off. Come on people use your head for something besides a hat rack.
