I've recently played Castlevania: Dracula X. After beating the second boss, as I was low on health, it exploded and killed me (after I won) :/. Then I recalled that it happened to me in the original Castlevania as well; after beating the Grim Reaper while low on health, his scythes where still unavoidably floating around which killed me, again, after I won lol.

It's kinda amusing to me. Has this happened to you in a video game?

Happened on my first playthrough of Final Fantasy 8, I think. Probably happened at some point in a Pokemon game, too.

The final boss of Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn was the goddess of the continent. The player commanded a group of lowly citizens, so they had no business challenging her anyway. So you spend 20 minutes whittling away at her health. Finally, you can kill her. You pick your favorite guy and cut her to bits. Then, she comes back to life and completely refills her massive health bar. When she regenerates she generally kills someone as soon as she can. Turns out this will happen forever unless the main character strikes the killing blow.

Aside from the scripted losses, the closest I've come to a post victory failure was when I challenged Koga in LeafGreen with an underleveled team, and only had one poisoned critical condition pokemon left with no healing items. It had 4 hit points left when I got to the pokemon center.

My first attempt at the final mission of the Treasures of Aht Urghan expansion of Final Fantasy XI screwed me over at the very end. The final boss turns out to be a mechanized version of a well-known Summon, and after a certain point in the battle, the chat box just has them saying the Omega symbol over and over again. I went into the fight as my Dragoon, and was able to Super Jump out of the way of most of their strongest moves. Just as I got off the Weapon Skill that killed them, they used their ultimate move. The chat box said I defeated the boss, but they still killed us all. We lost the mission and had to do it all over.

Wow, lots of deaths after beating a boss in Sonic.

I've had it in Sonic 3 and Knuckles, it was crazy, he dropped a few bombs, the flew down to the visible screen, I jump on him, and the bomb then drops on my, and I died.

This has happened to me a bunch of times in the Mega Man series. I was in the rematch stage in mega man 2 and when I was fighting Dr.Wily I died. I screamed NOOOOOOO!!!!! but then i heard the music like you beat the boss so i looked up and i won and i was like YESSSSSSS!!!!!

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. I shot a fireball at Granfaloon from the vantage point, and his tentacle came out and smacked me off the ledge and into a pile of poison grubs. He was exploding as I died of the poison.

I had this happen to me in Pokemon Pearl. Cynthia's team had managed to posion one of my pokemon... and he was my last one left. I managed to KO her last pokemon... and then mine fainted right afterwards from the poison effect... and of course i lost the battle cause of it.... GAH!!!

No..but once a guy i knew was playing Zelda WoG (i knw..bad game) he beat ganon but still had to escape the castle. he died while escaping it. He got sent back to the beginning, but didnt have to beat ganon again.

There was also this time when I was playing Looney Toons for the GBC. I was at the Porky Pig level and Fighting the final boss at the level. The boss defeated but his hand got me after that. I was my last life so I got a lot of lifes after that. I think it was 99 lifes.
