In my point of view, both are possible. You can do whatever you want to do, but all of those things are planned by God.

Robert7 : but will God force you you to do any of those things? Or are the opportunities simply put in your path and whether or not you do/choose them is up to you?

geeogree : No he will not. You can do whatever you want, including turning away from God. But he always knows what you will do. =)

He gives people choices so we won't be robots, to put it quite simply.

okay . I was just clarifying.

I agree with you though. I can't imagine my life being planned out for me.... considering how poorly some aspects of it have been. I can't imagine a higher being planning my life, and a lot of other lives I've witnessed, to be the way they are. I figure I could have done a better planning people's lives so that there would be a little less suffering in the world. I wouldn't want to eliminate all adversity.... but there has been some excessive suffering that has gone on.

I believe that God allows us to choose our path, and puts things in our place to influence us to choose the right path. I also believe that we could not be truly happy if we didn't receive the freedom to choose. If we choose to help others and have a positive attitude, we'll have a more lasting, full happiness than just doing things for ourself.

I believe that everyone has the power to change their lives and by doing so - creating their own future.
Everytime you make a choice, you make something happen.
As for "free will" - is there such a thing?
You may want to change or do something, but always can't for various reasons.

So, more to the "free will" side, but basically none of them.

Well, this thread died for a month, came back, died for three, came back, I wonder if it will be able to survive and come back again, LOL Well, I think we can choose to do whatever we want. But whatever we choose to do, all things that we are capable of and can choose to do after that initial choice are known to God, and every choice after that everything is still the same. I also toy with the infinite parallel realities thought, that every action and choice we make spawns another reality in which the consequences of that action take place, and if it was significant enough then that reality keeps following in the direction that action took it, or if the difference was minor and had no effect on the reality, that reality would eventually become completely parallel and synonymous with the reality it branched off of, and perhaps would eventually merge with it, causing no change. That might be deja vu, when realities merge, and perhaps the infinitesmal time it took for the reality to be created and for it to merge with the other cause us to feel as though we've seen something before, because we have, in a different reality, but only for a quick little snippit the time length that of when the reality was born and when it merged.

BTowns : What?

Anyways, I think that everyone does have free will. I mean, why would god create so much suffering? He did not create it. We created it. Plus, if we didn't have free will, then we probably wouldn't consider doing one thing, then the other, and keep doing that until we choose one. If that path was already created, then why make it so complicated and put so much work on yourself? That's just what I think it is.

We all have free will. Not all of us have determination. But, with our free will we can choose to have determination.
