The voluntary recall was announced by Hillandale Farms. The company is located about 100 miles from the Wright County Eggs, based in Galt, Iowa, which has previously ordered a recall of 380 million eggs in one of the largest egg recalls in history.

"There have been laboratory-confirmed salmonella enteritidis illnesses associated with the shell eggs," Hillandale Farms noted in a press release. "[T]he investigation is ongoing."

It was not immediately determined how large the Hillandale recall will be. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is not investigating any additional egg farms. Instead, the agency is now "looking for commonalities" among the affected farms, such as where these farms were buying feed and the facility that provided the farms with young hens, according to Sherri McGarry, director of the Division of Public Health and Biostatistics at the FDA's Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition (CFSAN).

Just thought to bring this up, this forum being the "News" forum and everything...

Ouch! 480 Million Eggs...

It is one of the largest egg recalls America has ever had...

What is your thoughts or reactions on this?

that sucks.... that might put a company out of business.... although they might have insurance for something as catastrophic as this.

I'm glad that caught it and hopefully not too many more people will get sick.... but the fact that 2000 people have gotten sick makes you wonder why the eggs were so bad to begin with.

Its very unfortunate that this happens, but it isn't unexpected. What boggles me is how these diseases get into this food.

The diseases come from the chicken itself. As for the disease, people should be cooking the eggs and washing their hands afterwords to kill it anyways.

metal - most likely they will go out of business.... I can't imagine having an egg recall of this magnitude not bankrupting the company. And if nothing else, I wouldn't buy eggs from them ever again.

This kind of think almost definitely Bankrupts a business. Basically a business gets sued or they get no buyers or sponsors.

Everyone should be more careful about it just in case if our eggs are the ones that have problems. One saying: eat less eggs!

This is only one of the reasons why I am so glad I don't eat meat, poultry, fish or any other animal by-products. The conditions on some of these farms is horrible it's no wonder they have all kinds of diseases and things and we get sick as a result. Just my own stand point but I don't think we were ever intended to eat animals or any of their by-products. We can get all the nutrition we need from the earth. I could advocate some more but I don't want to be pushy. Everyone has a choice. I know my choices won't mean I'm sick from salmonella.
