Hey i just started playing FF1 since i never played it and i wanted to actually play as many of the FF series as possible. Ive beaten FFIV, FFV and FFX. So i went back to the beginning. Now i know since the Red Mage is versatile and is able to cast both White and Black magic. I also know that Red Wizard will be able to cast like a few levels above where Red Mage stops. Thing is, i dont know what area it stops at. Im currently Level 21, i just got to Melmond, and i want to buy Firaga. I just dont know if i need to become a Red Wizard first. Any advice or enlightenment is appreciated

Yeah, you have to be a Red Wizard to get Firaga.

Believe me i know it. IN FFV i made sure at least 2 People had Red Mage abilities. So im currently "maxed" out magic wise till i get Red Wizard?

Red wizards will be able to use 2 level 7 magic and no level 8 magic. Near endgame, it may be more efficient to use him as a buffer or to get rid of groups of weaker enemies with an AoE spell, to conserve your black wizard's mana for bosses.

Nah my team is now Knight, Ninja, White Wiz and Red Wiz. I can use the Ninja for some buffs since he has Haste. The White Wiz also has some things like Protera and Invisa. Also, My ninja has some Fire and Blizzara and Thundara. And Red Wiz has all the way up to 3rd tier like Thundaga. So they can cover the Magic Department. And my Knight rocks . Im at Mt. Gulg now.

I do. If i give them the summoner ability also i can dualcast Bahamut consistently, and DualCast doesnt use any MP. So its very useful against bosses.
