So, I'm sure most, if not all of you have heard of the attempts to build a mosque near Ground Zero (the site of 9/11 attacks). Even our president is for it.
I take that as a slap to the face of America. Yeah, not all Muslims are terrorists, and not really all terrorists are Muslim, but the terrorists attacking on 9/11 were, and then to build a Muslim building of worship so close to the place where it happened, where the ones who take Islamic teaching too far ruthlessly killed so many of our countrymen, is just... I can't even describe how I feel, I'm so angered and hurt that they would even consider to do something like that. Some president we have.

The mosque is NOT on the ground zero site but nearby. It's about 2 blocks away by the maps I've seen.

This is my opinion on the subject and the polls I've seen with regards to this are similar. Muslims have the religious right to put a mosque anywhere they want to as long as they adhere to the local zoning laws and what not. There is no legal reason why they can't have the mosque where it is.

However, I don't think there is a lot of wisdom in the location of the site.... and I've heard the backers of this mosque have connections to terrorist groups in the middle east. I have no idea if that is true, but if it is then I would question the motivation for why the mosque is being built at that location. I have also heard that the Imam that will be in charge of that mosque is a radical.

Again this is only what I've heard, but I feel like if there is a chance any of that is true then it needs to be investigated before the mosque is allowed to be built.

I haven't heard anything about terrorists being connected to those backing it though... and I doubt the truth of that, but it is something to look into.
And I don't doubt that they have a religious right... but it's just so... rude to want to put that there. Completely inconsiderate, and then Obama goes and backs it. Not the brightest idea.

That's not exactly how I heard it either. On Friday he said that they had the right to build their mosque where they wanted to, but on Saturday he clarified by saying that they have the right but whether or not it's wise to put one at that location is something he wouldn't comment on....

so, while he wouldn't take a stand one way or the other (like many politicians do) he at least clarified that he wasn't saying he thought it was a good idea or not but simply that they have the religious freedom to put a mosque where they want to have one.

Stupid idea I must say, they should have put it further away from there or its just asking for attention and trouble. I agree it is a slap in the face to america and completely disrespectful for the victims of 9/11. If they put it else where it would not be a problem but I guess they wanted attention, well now they got it

The mosque is insensitive and and insult. According to law, however, they have every right to build it there unless it is proven to be funded by an enemy, which I find very likely. Muslims have been known to build elaborate mosques on sites of victory in the past. I would also like to point out that, although Obama references the constitution which permits this mosque being built, he seems content to ignore the constitution on so many other issues.

It might not be illegal to do this but it is damn annoying that they're gonna try this. People should be outraged at what's happening. People slaughtered in the name of Islam and now a mosque being built. So annoying.

Even though I'm not American, I find that that is a HUGE offense. Building anything but a memorial near that area is a bad idea. Huge landmarks like that should be preserved, and respected.

As NATE said, not anything against Muslims, but some of them that go to America ARE terrorists, and it just has a feeling of wrongness about it.

Obama did what he does best, bow down to republicans haha. At first he backed it then I think it was like one or two days later he basically retracted his statement. And I could see how this would agitate some people, but this is America. Why should we stoop to to other countries levels and forbid a religious group from building certain buildings? I believe we are better then that.

I'm down for them to build it!
Everyone has a right to build a place of worship and so on.
If they can't build it now because of "lack of sensitivity" then
when CAN they?? Its been 9 years already so who decides when its "ok"?
Or are the muslims forever barred from building a mosque in that area?
Will they get a restraining order saying they cant build within 100 meters or somethin?

Honestly... it just feels wrong. It's like they want to show we've struck against the great American Satan and we've won. Honestly if they start building it I wouldn't be surprised to find hillbillies up there showing what they think.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not against religious freedom but you really need to think about what you do in instances like this. And right now they're being pretty stupid and endangering more lives.

Yay lets build a KKK fortress in a black neighborhood after killing 3000 blacks. That is exactly what its like. Or how about someone kills your family and moves in next door... you have to look in the victims shoes here or you won't understand the situation. 9/11 was a HUGE turning point in American history, allowing muslims to piss all over 3000 graves is not American. We are still at war here, a pointless war might I add but at least have the courage to not allow the enemy to build their bases on our soil so close to where they murdered all those people.

Building a Muslim place of worship so close is almost like they're putting up a victory memorial. Like if we went and put up a World War II memorial in Hiroshima.

They have the religious freedom to put the mosque there, but they should have really thought it out...or maybe they put it at that spot for attention. Who knows :/

I see 2 points of view from the Muslims wanting to build this Mosque.
Either [1] they are trying to prove the point of Islam as a peaceful religion,
or they are [2] trying to advance their terrorist agenda.

Either reason is not a favorable one because the angry Americans are going to frequently vandalize it, if not burn it down.

If that were the case then christians should be considered the enemy as well. As they have had radicals that bomb abortion clinics and kill doctors because of their views. Every group has its radical nutjobs, and I dont think its fair to judge a whole group of people based on a couple of loonies.

IMHO i think, though i support religious freedom i think it should've been built somewhere else. how can congress disapprove health care for 9/11 responders but approve a mosque on ground zero. it's like a slap to the face of the heroes who went to ground zero the help others during the attack. It blows my mind how we can ignore the needs of the 9/11 heroes

the Bible condemns a lot of things that people who call themselves Christians still do.... doesn't mean they aren't Christians... just means they aren't perfect.

I don't think Jigsaw was suggesting that all muslims are the enemy.... but to allow the same group that the terrorists claim allegiance to build a mosque that close to ground zero could be seen as offensive. Combine that with the possibility that some of the money that is funding the mosque is coming from terrorists sources and I think you have a justified response to this mosque.
