It's actually a Tie between 2 games but the Tie breaker would go to FF7.

Final Fantasy VII - Playstation

The story line was deep with so many plot twists and I felt so attached to the characters. I put more time into that game than any other game, I literally did everything you could do in the game, purchased everything, found everything, etc - I put around 200 hours into the game. The game is huge with so much to do, so many side quests, etc. But it's ultimately the story which makes this game so amazing, you feel what the characters feel and you get emotional when the characters get emotional. There's a reason why this game is one of the highest rated games of all time, it's one of the greatest gaming experiences you'll ever have and you'll remember it forever.

Shenmue - Dreamcast

Not only did this game have some of the best graphics of any game for it's time, but also introduced a completely unique Genre where you were given an open world that was so active and life like that you actually felt like you were part of the world, especially since you lived the role of a character, Ryo Hazuki, for a full day each day (and the days were divided by night where you had to go to sleep at a certain time). The storyline was amazing, it was like an interactive movie with tons of voice acting and cut scenes and the fighting was based on Virtua Fighter but even better. There's a reason why this game was the most expensive game ever made, it's one of the most innovative master pieces I've ever played.

Alright... I'm not quite sure about this one. I have a lot of favorites and this is also subject to change but, right now, I have two that pop up first on my mind so I'll go ahead and list them both.

Final Fantasy VI-SNES

I can safely say that this is my favorite Final Fantasy and JRPG that I've played so far. I've finished IV, V, VI, VII in the main series games. Contrary to popular opinion, I think that Final Fantasy VI is superior to Final Fantasy VII because I just enjoyed everything better(sorry David ). The entire game was a masterpiece. The story was absolutely stunning. I felt like this game was the perfect blend of fantasy and science fiction with its "Industrial Age" style setting. There were plenty of plot twists and it just keeps you interested throughout the whole experience. I did NOT want to put this game down the first time through. Add all that with the unforgettable characters, with one of the most expansive playable casts in FF history, and one of the most nihilistic and memorable videogame villains of all time. I felt very involved in the story thanks to the wonderful loads of character development from each character, and the ending was wrapped up very nicely with a sense of closure. The music is also brilliant, with Dancing Mad being one of my favorite final boss themes of all time, but then again, Nobuo Uematsu's soundtracks are always excellent haha. I feel as if this single game kind of represents the essence of Final Fantasy itself. It's taken everything that was great about the 2D games in the past, and expanded it with the relic and Esper/Magicite system and Desperation Attacks(basically the predecessor of the Limit Break, even if it was extremely rare.) There's so many memories in this game. Plus, I credit this game and Chrono Trigger for getting me into JRPGs in the first place.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time-Nintendo 64

Unlike FFVI, this wasn't my first Zelda game. I think I was still new to the Zelda franchise at the time, OoT being my second Zelda game that I've played. Because of how critically acclaimed the game was, I simply HAD to play it. And after playing the game, there was no doubt that I was going to play a lot more Zelda games . I mean, there's a reason why this game is surrounded with hype, and I still haven't heard many claim it's overrated. This is the basis of all console Zelda games to come, and it's simply brilliant. Of course, I love all of the console Zeldas, but this one gets the most credit because this was the one that got me hooked on Zelda. The story was so awesome(plus it had time-travel in a fantasy style game. I love time travel XD). There was so much that was unexpected in the storyline, and the gameplay was very innovative at the time. The puzzles were challenging enough for me and satisfying for me to beat. And the ending was really nice. Plus, this game is also the basis of the Split Timeline theory(which believe it or not, EXISTS.)
To be honest, I find most of the console Zeldas intensely locked in a deadlock, because they've all got something great about them, but they all started from Ocarina of Time.

Some runner-ups(or tied with the two above) would be these in no particular order:
Metroid Prime
Super Metroid
Super Smash Bros Melee
Chrono Trigger
The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
Sonic 3 and Knuckles
Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions

Like I said, any of these listed could've been expanded on but FFVI and OoT were the first that came to my mind. I love all those games listed above though, and each has a pretty special reason why they're my one of my favorites.

I'll go with two as well since everyone else is but I have a hard time choosing.

Silent Hill 4: The Room-PS2

This is my absolute favorite out of the series. The storyline was engaging and had many psychological themes that were intriguing. It's one of the few games that have actually made it hard for me to turn off the lights after playing it because the whole atmosphere of the game is just so well do. The music is absolutely amazing too. Room of Angels is probably one of the best songs to ever come out of a video game.

Okami

What can I say about this game? It was utterly breathtaking and innovative. The storyline reflected Japanese mythology and I'm a lover of all ancient mythology. The music was also amazing but the game play was so addictive. Being able to destroy enemy's or perform tasks by drawing? My kind of game.

Very nice , I like how you guys detail your answers . It makes this Thread a whole lot better .

I'd have to say my FAVORITE game of all time is The Legend of Zelda : Ocarina of Time .

The Story line followed up nicely , but then you just had the option to free roam , race horses to obtain Epona , even bet on dog races ! There was so much extra to do , especially collecting Skull Tokens to make your money bag hold more .

I think it's obvious,lol

Any Tomb Raider is good for me

If I had to choose, I would say that Tomb Raider:Legend is my favorite one
It has lots of features, Lara looks really cool(just have a glance at my layout and user picture, lol)
And I like the new rival, Amanda(I look like more with her that with Lara )

i would like to say any mega man, mega man x, or mega man zero game in the series, but if i were limited to one i would choose mega man 5.
i think it has the most interesting story concept out of the original series.
in a game series that lacked much depth this one stood out the most to me.
as a close second i think i would have chose mega man 4, mainly because you thought for once that you weren't going to be going after dr. wily for a change.

For me it's a tie between Zelda: Ocarina of Time and Zelda: Twilight Princess. They're both equal in their own regard, so I couldn't come to a conclusion which is my favorite.

For me it is Paper Mario:The Thousand Year Door. Sort of a weird choice I know, but I just loved that game to death. It was a very colorful game filled with interesting characters. Each chapter was really unique and almost like it's own adventure. The battle system was also really great along with the crowd addition which added a unique twist on battles. Throw in a compelling story, sidequests, collectibles, and badges and you got a awesome game!

My favorite game is Super Smash Bros Brawl

Super Smash Bros Brawl - It's such a great game with several different Nintendo characters, plus 2 Third Party Characters, awesome music, collectible Trophies and Stickers, able to save replies of battles up to 3 minutes, several challenges, able to create your own customizable stages, take pictures and save them, Wifi, Solo and Co-op events, an 8 hour long adventure mode, awesome boss battles and awesome moves called Final Smash. This is definantly the Best Game Ever.

Might sound a bit odd, but my childhood favourite game has to be Rayman 2: The Great Escape for PS1. The visuals and sound were amazing, I really got into the storyline, and it was pretty challenging.
That, and it had Robot Ninja Pirates. That is awesome in my book.

I am honestly torn when it comes to a favorite. It's a between Final Fantasy 7 and Super Mario RPG - Legend of the Seven Stars. Both are very high quality RPGs for their release in the story department, though there could be a little more pushed from FF7 with PS1/PSX graphics during gameplay. If anything were to sway me at all, that would have to be it, even though some may feel differently. Mini-games are always a plus, and SMRPG-LotSS has that in spades, nearly as difficult as FF7's. Music FF7 would have to be the winner, though characters are much more fitting in SMRPG. Part of me wishes that they never went with the Paper Mario direction and kept the classic isometric 2.5 look during the N64, GameCube AND Wii versions.
