Threads like this really should have moderators to keep topics running. I wonder why there are no moderators for it *rolls eyes*

Anywho, let's see if I can't come up with something. I'm new here and not sure what everyone prefers to talk about, or maybe I do. I'm sure debate is just debate and I can just throw out a nice topic. Unfortunately, not much is coming to mind. I guess I'll bring up the Da Vinci Code. If you've read it, what are your thoughts on it? I bring up this particular book because of what I've heard about it. I know this is definately going to bring up religion so that's fine. My mom is christian and even though I feel like she's read every book imaginable and hasn't attended church in many years, she refuses to read this book. She's says that most people she know that have read it are Atheist and that it's supposed to be really challenging to one's faith. I'm only a very very small way into it so I don't know for myself just yet. But I thought it might be interesting to talk about if enough people have read it.

Well how about for those of us who haven't read it. What is the book about?

I was discussing books with my (Catholic) Grandmother, and this book was brought up. I asked her if she read it, and she went really quiet, and I reasked the question. She said, "No, I don't agree with it." and I really didn't understand what she meant. I've never read the book, and I've never studied Catholicism, so I don't know why she is so bothered by this book.

I havn't ever read the book but have always planned too. I think what the book talks about is that Leanardo Davinchi among others was in a secret group and that Jesus had kids and stuff like that. In my opinion Catholics don't really follow the bible very closely anyways. I've heard that some of the things in the book are historically inacurate. My friend is reading it now and I'll read it after him. Are they gonna come out with a movie? Already have? I don't know. IF anyone knows more post it. Just don't have spoilers for the book though

I've read it and I would fill you guys in but it is sorta part of the story. I have read it, but I only take it as a story and nothing more. I really begin to question his "evidence" he uses at some points because it seems really sketchy. It is an interesting mystery to me but that is it. I don't really agree with anything more it says.
Oh and we don't have a mod here because4 it is really find anybody neutral enough.

Have you ever had a good neutral mod?

I'm only in the beginning...nothing really related to the little contraversy about the book comes up in the first 70 pages or so since that's about how far I've gotten. I think more people should read it and come back later and tell their thoughts on it. If someone doesn't want to read spoilers though, they should just not read the thread...sorry if that sounds rude, because it's not meant to be.

Things might of been implied already but I can't remember for sure yet.

We had 3 mods for this at one point, but two left and the other became a full mod.

Well, then at least you know one of those mods was good. I'm curious to know why the other two left though.

Anyways, the book starts out with a decent murder mystery. You know who the killer is from the beginning, but reading about the interesting interrogation process and the evidence provided is fun.

You have a lot more to figure out though it isn't nearly that simple.

I know I have a lot to figure out. I am, after all, only in the beginning.

Did either of them say they'd be back at all?

Nope they have been gone for I'd guess 2 or 3 months now.

Well ahh I read the spoiler and didn't have to highlight it lol, wierd color schemes. I will read it though. In my humble opinion, somone doesn't have to be nuetral to moderate. Only fair in the sense he will treat everyone the same in his duties as moderator. In fact a radical one would be almost better for debate in my opinion.

Weird I still have to highlight the spoiler because of my layout, did you block my layout. Zylo you are right but the thing is that most people won't be fair.

Back to the topic I actually had it recommended by a Christian friend and she is just as strong with her faith as ever. It is really out there as to the ideas it has. I hadn't ever heard anything like that at least not what they were saying. And as I have already said his "proof" is very questionable. Twisty story though and interesting book, just the ideas are out there.

I just saw something where several historians were saying that a lot of claims had no proof, I think it was on ABC. They say like I said just to read it as a good work of fiction.

Also, the History Channel just had a bit about The Da Vinci Code on it as well and they said more or less the same thing as ABC.

I have not read it myself, but I've heard Pockets talk about it a bit. Of course he is still reading Angels and Demons (the book that came before it). I just see it as fiction, just like I see Harry Potter as fiction.

As for the neutral mod thing, I always thought of myself as neutral when I was a full mod, I said my opinions but I stuck to the rules of the board and closed threads that were turning into flame-fests and horribly off-topic; but other people didn't see it that way when I did my job... so I resigned. I'd happily volunteer to mod Debate, and I would be as neutral as possible, but I fear a repeat of the past.

I really don't think we have anyone truely neutral enough. I think it would be best to go with at least 2 mods for the board. Yeah more or less the same here. I don't know how you can really read Harry Potter as anything more, I mean I have heard that it is nothing liike Wiccan or Wicca. I may read Angels and Demons this summer it sounds interesting.

In my opinion mods don't have to be neutral, just fair. If they are fair to everyone then whats the problem? You can't ever voice your opinions? Its just treating everyone the same and abiding by the same rules as everyone else. Thats just my opinion. Just make sure you follow the flaming rules and don't cuss and stuff.
