Ok, some good tips:
Draw as much magic as possible.
Try junctioning different GFs to different people.
High powered spells are good for junctioning, ie firaga is better then fire.
In this game when you level the monsters do as well, so you want to try and not level too much.
Rely on your GFs and junctions instead.
Card magic is a good way to get out of a fight without leveling.

well for me, I have my characters leveled pretty decently and I make sure that there is no gf that is not junctioned to a character to make sure that I am able to junction as much magic as possible. in my party I have squall selphie and quistis. I have selphie because of her limit break and the ability to always be able to cast full cure it helps alot. just try and draw as much magic as possible to strengthen your characters as much as possible other than that there isnot much I can say to you as far as strategy because I don't know you current situation ofwhere you are in game or what your juncitoning is like. Best of luck

Level up your party alot with battles since they are easy to level up in FF8. Its also important to level up GFs by battling cactuars in the desert. If you have a GF that allows you to junction the magic "pain" to your attacks (ex:GF Siren) then when you attack enemies, they will be afflicted with 1 to 3 status ailments. I think bahamut and doomtrain have the abilities auto-protect and auto-shell. The snow island there is a place where you can draw "ultima" magic in exchange for money, make sure the draw point is purple before you pay the feline humanoid.

The one thing I have to disagree with for FF8 is leveling.
as I said "In this game when you level the monsters do as well" which means that while it's easy to level from battles the monsters nearly always stay stronger then you are.
Quetzalcoatl has a great ability called card that you can get early on in the game, if you weaken monsters then "card" them you will win the battle, get points for your summons, gain no experience and get a card of the monsters that you can use with other GF abilities to make items.
You just dont gain much in stats by leveling, GF junctioning is the best way to get high stats in this game, so getting them points and drawing lots of magic is the best option I think
Also if you havnt gotten him yet, fight Diablos and draw as much "Demi" from him as you can before defeating him as it is one of the more useful magics to have for junctioning.
