Personally, i believe the first two of the series to be hands down, the most white knuckling, tear inducing, fetal position ensuring games of the series, maybe of even any game i have ever played. I'm not sure what it is, maybe lack of knowledge as to where to go, or the fact that if you go the wrong way on the world map, you get owned by enemies far stronger than you. Which one is the hardest for you, explain.

To me the first two really weren't to hard, as long as you played safe, as it went on they got harder I beleave it was FF XII. They Switched things up the battle mode was new and it was just hard and took me considerable time to beat.

drag00n365 : Wow, that's sad dude. FF7 was where the series got easy. I agree that 1 and 2 were hard. The elemental ogres in ff2 were really hard.

I also say that FF 1 & 2 are hard. you need like a map to know of possibly think where to go next. i say some of the other FF games gots harder bosses tough, like FF 3 the bird boss that controls the king on the main land.

Trema from FFX-2 was pretty tough and probably Ruby and Emerald weapon from FF7 was super hard to beat also. In FF8 the Tonberry King gave me some difficulty too and the fact that I had to terminate 20 tonberries to face it.

8 is probally the only Final Fantasy that really could be said to be hard.
In 8 the monsters in the game level up every time you do, so you can never get stronger just by leveling alone, you need to think about things and junction magic properly.
And actually by leveling up in 8 you make every single boss more and more difficult to beat.
Every other Final Fantasy is easy compared to it, because all you need to do is spend a few hours leveling and you will be able to beat everything without too much trouble.

Well, off the regular numbered one's, the only one I haven't beaten is Japanese 2, and 13 which I've never played. So I guess by default I have to go with 2. I don't think I stopped playing it because it was hard so much as I lost my attention span. I remember you could beat the dog turds out of your own guys to level up HP really high early in the game.

Now that I give it some more serious thought, I think 4 was the Hardest one for me. It's not so hard now, but when I played it when I was like 7, it was one of my first RPGs and had no real idea how it worked, but I played through it anyway. Without exaggeration, I must have lost to Rubicant at least 100 times. I wouldn't be surprised if the number was actually higher. I didn't realize that weapons actually had elemental based damage, so I ended up beating him without Ice stuff, then I watched my older brother beat him to a pulp with Ice weapons, and did the same thing every time since then. I also didn't realize you could cast Wall on Asura so I came back at the end of the game and beat the bejesus out of her without it, then creamed Leviathan for good measure. The spells weren't all that useful at that point but it was more on principal than anything at that point anyway,

Final Fantasy XII was pretty tough mostly was the bosses and Scions that did me in most of the time. The Scions had special effects when I battled then whether it was draning HP or preventing me from casting magic. The Yazmat was by far the toughest to overcome since it continuously assaults my character without end before they can pull off a move.

I think that IV was the only one that ever gave me any real problems. I've never had so many game over's in a Final Fantasy game TT-TT I'm not really sure why it was :/

I think ff7 cause there is so much stuff to get but so hard to get it to defeat sephiroth but then his 3 stages are so hard to beat and if you used my fav summon knights of the round n his first stage it does full damage on it but then if u try to reuse it on his 2nd stage it only does half its reg. damage and so i had to try not using it and ever time i got to the 2nd stage i like died in like 6 min. also that super nova was a B*^%# when he used it. one time when he used it i got up made a samwich (while taking my time) and went back to the room and it was only half way done and by the time i had ate the whole samwich it was done.

To be honest, I think it's number 5. 5 had a really hard random encounter system, and crazy boss battles. Not to mention that the prices for potions were abnormally high.

i think any of the 3 nes final fantasy's were the most difficult.
the different methods of leveling up and time it took to do so was both tedious and extremely nerve racking at times.

For me it would be 5 from the FF Anthology. I've beat all the others but this one I got to the final area and quit because I wasn't leveled up enough. I guess I lost the motivation to level up further because of the job class system.

I think FF7 is the hardest of the series so far. The last few battles were a freakin pain, especially the last battle against Sephiroth.

I agree. Out of all of the ones I played, FFVII was the hardest. Only because of the optional bosses, though. In all of the other FF games, I could always beat all of the optional bosses without raising my people to level 99. Defeating Ruby weapon without being lv. 99 is virtually impossible.
