IVe looked up a lot of sites and books and have been surprised to see that the Intellivision is almost widely ignored or in some cases, not even mentioned! Was it that bad of a system? or was it just a forgotten wonder of the old age? I mean you see stuff for at least one atari system all over the place, but it feels to me that a system I dearly loved just kinda got left behind..

I mean even sites like this one.. You can find Atari, Nes, and all sorts of those systems online but I have not found a single site that actually hosted Intellevision games. Is there a reason why? or has no one even bothered to ask? If its a technical issue like controller Things then id understand, if it was even a programming thing That would make sense.. but if not.. then I must be among the view to actually want to see this system rise again.. Least that is how it seems to me. I know that I Used to play this thing all the time.. If yo guys do know an Intellevision site to play at.. then let me know.. unless this site plans to add it some time soon..

Sorry about the rant.. I just miss Astro smash... I mean it seems wrong that I can play N64 games with a decent speed, and see no sign at all of the system I grew up with.

Honestly I never heard of it. Which makes me think that it really couldn't of been that great of a system then again it could have been. I'm leaning towards it wasn't, I'll check bak here later and see what people say about this...

O.O your joking right? Intellivision was up there with teh FIRSt game systems.. now adays graphi wise it would utterly suck.. but the intellivision was simple graphics.. back when 8 bit and color were new^^

Well give us some details on it, like how it was great, what games it had, something because you seem like the only person to post about it and know what it is. So I guess that pretty much answers your question that it is either forgotten or never heard of/played.

Like I said before Intellivision was among the first of the game systems, adn started off multiple Gaming trends, such as ported games with differences, and was part of the very first console war.

* Intellivision can be considered the first 16-bit game console, as the registers in the microprocessor, where the mathematical logic is processed, are 16 bits wide. It can however be considered a 10-bit system because the CPU's instruction set and game cartridges are 10 bits wide.
* The Intellivision was also the first system to feature downloadable games. Although, without a storage device the games vanished once the machine was turned off. In 1981, General Instrument teamed up with Mattel to roll out the PlayCable, a device that allowed the downloading of Intellivision games via cable TV.
* Intellivision was the first game console to provide real-time human and robot voices in the middle of gameplay, courtesy of the IntelliVoice module. The voice chip used, the SP0256 Orator, was developed jointly by Mattel and General Instrument.[10]
* Intellivision was the first console to feature a controller with a directional pad that allowed 16 directions. The disc-shaped pad allowed players to control action without lifting the thumb and was considered by many Intellivision users to be a useful innovation. However, the ergonomics of the "action" buttons on the side of the controller were poor, and the disc-pad was perceived by potential buyers as unfamiliar. Along with cost, this was one of the factors in making the Intellivision less popular than the Atari 2600. However, it is interesting to note that the method of controlling movement on the Intellivision, with the thumb, is emulated in many subsequent video game controllers. The joystick-style controller, as seen on the VCS, has not been widely emulated on later consoles. A third-party joystick attachment was available by around 1984, that was installed by opening the controller and fitting the paddle over the disc. A flange around the hollow plastic conical joystick held it in securely when the controller's upper cover was replaced; and a much easier joystick control was the result. Mom HAs told me that It was also the system with the first baseball game where you controlled the out fielders.. The system started a lot of things that modern day gaming depends on.. 16 direction movement.. in game voices.. the fact people can claim to not have heard of it seems VERY wrong to me..

It wasn't popular and the games stunk, it fastly slipped through the cracks of video game history.

seriously i've never heard of it, my first system was a neogeo, probably the most expensive system i've ever bought.

Intellivision's main competitor would have been Atari 2600. Here's a few reasons why Intellivision was a million times better than Atari:

Intellivision had MUCH better graphics and sound than Atari.

Atari had a joystick and one button. Intellivision had a directional "disk" (worked a lot like a joystick) and a total of 16 buttons (12 buttons arranged like a phone pad and two buttons on each side of the controller). This enabled the developement of more sophisticated games.

Intellivision had a pause function. *nice*

At the very least, Intellivison is without a doubt one of the most CORE game systems out there, it was the beginning D-pad and joystick. This system is hat gave you diagonal motion! Say thank you and play. BASK IN THE RETRO YE YOUNGER PEOPLE..

honestly im 22 and you all make me feel old.. wtf? you youngergamers and your 'continues' and save points.. MY older games you played till you died.. adn hten played again to see if you can go longer. You don't play to win, you play to live as long as you can. there was no such thing as a 'short game' YOU played for 10-30 minutes, battling against your bladder, stomach and the enemies on screen.

I have heard of it and still have yet to forget. I wouldn't mind playing a game sometime if I could.

A great console graphically superior to the Atari, you just have to look at the Donkey Kong port to see that.

I think you can play a couple of games in the game room on the VH1 site.

but it is though. In gaming books and thigns that talk about gaming history. As sad is it is the intellivision was a FAR superior game system, that just kinda went poof, despite its awesomeness. Seriously if you can find me a book about gaming history, that covers old to new and even mentions intellivision, ill be surprised.

I didn't forget the Intellivision. I don't miss it either. I never really liked it that much.

I always thought that the Intellevision's games were very cheap. The console itself is made of imitation wood veneer and plastic, it looked like a piece of furniture. It looked some what like the Colecovision which was a little more popular. I just think that it didn't improve anything in the video gaming industry and blended in.

Intellevison was first. There for it defined.

But yeah, hardly anybody I know has heard or still remembers the Intellivision.

Well part of my surprise and hard work towerd this is actually cause of my mom lol. SHE was a huge intellevison fan, and is also a mega gamer like me. If I can get her access to SNAFU.. she will be a happy camper im sure LOL. Plus like I said before, inteli and atari were the fist REAL console war. and while atari eventually won, that war shaped what woudl becoem video games in the future.
