Mega Man 8 like most Mega Man games gave us some unique robot masters. Like most Mega Man games element themed robot masters were well represented in Mega Man 8. Sword Man falls in the later as he is a fire/heat based robot master. He made his debut in Mega Man 8.

Background- Dr. Wily stole an ancient Asian sword from a museum and decided to make a robot master out of it. Thus, he developed Sword Man and made him into a fire based combat robot. However, Sword Man sword was too heavy. Wily had to redesign him even more. Wily built gravity devices into Sword Man so he can use his sword weapon effectively. Wily was very pleased at the creation he had made and how effective Sword Man was at fighting.

Wily used Sword Man during the events of Mega Man 8. He participated in Wily's latest scheme to take over the world. Sword Man's sword being Asian took over ruins in the country of India. The ruins he took over are filled with traps mainly lava traps, fire traps, pits, and puzzles. Sword Man eagerly awaited Mega Man's arrival wanting to challenge him in a duel. Despite working for Wily Sword Man has a sense of honor even when confronting Mega Man as he told Mega Man lets make this a fair fight.

Sword Man put up a good fight against Mega Man, but Mega Man got the upper hand and defeated him. Sword Man even congratulated Mega Man for defeating him. After the events of Mega Man 8 his CD data shows he is still alive. But it is not known if he works for Wily anymore.

Appearance- Sword Man is a tall human like robot. He has a reddish-orange like color. On one of his arms is his large heavy and trusty sword. The other arm has a regular hand. He has a bulky upper body, a skinny abdomen area, and very bulky legs. This is due to the gravity devices Wily had to install in him so he can use his sword. He seems to be wearing silver colored shoes.

Personality- Sword Man has a very high sense of honor even when addressing opponents. He also has good sportsman ship as he congratulated Mega Man for defeating him. He is also very noble and has a gentleman attitude. He is also very sharp witted and has high intelligence. He does not like new fashions though and loves it that he is old school. He also cannot stand faulty swords. During his spare time he loves to collect Asian Swords. He also seems to like the Mayan culture. Despite his base being in India there is a lot of Mayan imagery in his fort.

Attacks- Sword Man can be a handful in battle. Due to the gravity devices he can split his body in two. When he does this the upper body will spin his sword around and then the lower part will try to ram into the player for extra hits. His main attack is his flame sword. During his flame sword attack he will create a wave of fire using his sword. The fire can be short distance or long distance. Another attack is he can surround himself with fire to do massive damage. Another dangerous attack is he can drop a large Mayan like sculpture onto the player. His attacks are powerful and can do serious damage. Despite being tall and bulky his attacks are also fast and he can do them in rapid fashion.

Weakness- His main weakness being a fire based robot master is water. Water Balloon is his weakness. The water balloon weapon will put out his fires and really cool him off. Using his weakness he can be locked into a pattern. Without his weakness he does not leave himself open to attacks. The player will need great reflexes and luck to beat him without his weakness.

If the player defeats him they will get the powerful flame sword weapon. The Flame Sword Weapon can burn traps, burn obstacles, and is a very effective weapon to use on enemies. It also has a good amount of ammo.

As stated Sword Man appears to like the Mayan theme. His stage takes place in India. However, he uses Mayan paintings for his puzzles, and he also uses Mayan like sculptures as weapons. In addition, his stage could be a reference to Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. His stage takes place in India and has lava in it. Some of the bosses look like they are wearing mask. This is similar to the Temple of Doom which also took place in India, had lava in it, and some of the bad guys wore mask like over their faces.

Sword man using a sword is considered outdated he does not like new trends including fashion. He is considered old school and he is proud of it. He loves sword fighting.

He is similar to Yamato Man, Tomahawk Man, and Knight Man from Mega Man 6. Those robot masters had a high sense of honor and a warrior spirit. Sword Man has a high sense of honor even congratulating Mega Man for getting hits on him and defeating him. He also has a gentleman attitude despite being good at combat just like the Robot Masters from I mentioned from Mega Man 6 had.

It is not known where he went after Mega Man 8. Its possible he still works for Wily as Wily highly valued him due to his fighting ability and intelligence. However, another theory suggest he might have been freed from Wily and works at a sword museum or gives tours. It has not been confirmed which one of these is true by Capcom. What is true is that he is still alive as evident by his CD data. It should be noted due to his high sense of honor Mega Man highly respects him and Sword Man respects Mega Man based on their interactions. He is a classy robot master.
