Winter of 2015 was very active for a large part of the United States concerning Winter Weather. The January 31st to February 2nd Blizzard was the second significant blizzard to impacted the United States. Indeed, it was the second of a series of blizzards to impact the United States. In fact, it came on the hills of the late January blizzard.
This blizzard just produced rain in my state. But I remember referencing it by doing my forecast explaining how if you have loved ones in a lot of areas check on them. This Blizzard in its early stages impacted the Rocky Mountains. However, it really intensified in the upper Midwest. Therefore, this blizzard mainly impacted the Upper Midwest and Northeast regions of the United States. It also impacted Canada mainly around Toronto.
The storm that became the blizzard moved onto the West Coast in late January on the heels of the late January blizzard. The Snow moved into the Southern Rocky Mountains. Cold air was in place in places like Salt Lake City, Colorado, and Santa FE NM. This storm also produced snowfall in the higher terrain of Arizona.
Due to the Jet Stream the storm after emerging out of the Rocky Mountains moved into the Upper Midwest. The storm pulled Gulf moisture up northward. Before this low moved in a trough pulled very cold air into the Upper Midwest and Northeast. Strong winds aloft being pushing into the storm system.
The storm begin to intensify reaching a pressure of 978 millibars. That would be equivalent to a category 1 or lower category 2 hurricane. Blizzard warnings started to be issued for the Upper Midwest. Wind and snow pounded the states of Iowa, Nebraska, South/North Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Michigan. As the storm moved eastward it produced blizzard conditions into Upstate New York, and New England.
It also impacted The Toronto Canada Metro Area. producing wind and snow in that area too as it also moved eastward.
In the Storm's Early stages it produced the following snowfall totals.
Rocky Mountains
Salt Lake City close to 6 inches.
Colorado 8 inches mainly on the front range.

While this storm was not the most severe storm to impact the USA. This storm was historic due to the amount of states it impacted and millions of people it also impacted. Sadly this storm claimed 15 lives due to accidents, and people getting stranded in the arctic air. The storm was also blamed for over $600 million in damages in the areas it impacted.
What allowed this storm to impact so many was the track of this storm system. Due to a very strong El Nino this storm took a more southerly track. However, it was pulled northward due to a trough and just stream lifting northward. The arctic air and strong winds coming in behind this came together to create this blizzard. As I mentioned earlier this was the second of a series of winter storms that impacted the United States.
