In your opinion, what were the best songs released in 2024? I just put together a Spotify playlist of my top 120 songs of the year, but I'm not going to post all 120. I think I'll just share my top 50. Before I do, though, I want to clarify that I mostly listen only to albums in order these days. You'll notice that there are a lot of songs from the same few albums on here, and that's due to the way that I listen to music. The albums I love have a lot of songs that I love. There aren't a lot of songs from albums I don't like, because even if I do like an individual song, I likely won't listen to it much if I don't like the rest of the album that it's on. There are exceptions of course, but I think that helps explain a lot of what is going on with my top 50. For the top 10, I'll give explanations. I won't for numbers11 through 50, but if you're curious about any of them, ask away. I'm be happy to explain any of my picks. 50. HOT ONE (with TiaCorine & A$AP Ferg) - Denzel Curry 49. peekaboo (feat. azchike) - Kendrick Lamar 48. encore - Shygirl 47. 6:16 in LA - Kendrick Lamar 46. lil' freak - bbno$ 45. redrum - 21 Savage 44. SKED (with Kenny Mason & Project Pat) - Denzel Curry 43. gloria (with SZA) - Kendrick Lamar 42. DENIAL IS A RIVER - Doechii 41. 360 featuring robyn & yung lean - Charli xcx 40. Darling, I (feat. Teezo Touchdown) - Tyler, The Creator 39. NISSAN ALTIMA - Doechii 38. hey now (feat. dody6) - Kendrick Lamar 37. 360 - Charli xcx 36. Watching T.V. - Magdalena Bay 35. Angel on a Satellite - Magdalena Bay 34. luther (with sza) - Kendrick Lamar 33. Vampire in the Corner - Magdalena Bay 32. Apple - Charli xcx 31. Cry for Me - Magdalena Bay 30. Killing Time - Magdalena Bay 29. Girl, so confusing - Charli xcx 28. She Looked Like Me! - Magdalena Bay 27. wacced out murals - Kendrick Lamar 26. Tunnel Vision - Magdalena Bay 25. Spring breakers - Charli xcx 24. The Ballad of Matt & Mica - Magdalena Bay 23. That's My Floor - Magdalena Bay 22. Love Is Everywhere - Magdalena Bay 21. Sympathy is a knife - Charli xcx 20. Talk talk - Charli xcx 19. reincarnated - Kendrick Lamar 18. Image - Magdalena Bay 17. Talk talk featuring troye sivan - Charli xcx 16. Club classics - Charli xcx 15. Von dutch - Charli xcx 14. Everything is romantic - Charli xcx 13. meet the grahams - Kendrick Lamar 12. Death & Romance - Magdalena Bay 11. Guess - Charli xcx And the top 10... 10. squabble up - Kendrick Lamar The "when I feel music it makes me dance" sample is perfect for this song, because that's exactly what "squabble up" makes me want to do. I'm not much of a dancer, but I can't help but move whenever I hear this song. The delivery of "get the f*** out my face" in the chorus is also incredible. 9. Mean girls - Charli xcx Such a fun song. The melody is so incredibly catchy, the production goes hard, and the piano break is my favorite moment on my favorite album of the year. 8. tv off (feat. lefty gunplay) - Kendrick Lamar Immediately an iconic song. I love the decision to double down on the Mustard West Coast dance style. It worked on "Not Like Us," and it worked again on "tv off." All I can say is MUSTAAAAAAAAARD. Can't wait to hear Kendrick perform this song at the Super Bowl. 7. B2b - Charli xcx My first listen of BRAT, this was my favorite song. It's now my second-favorite, but I still absolutely love it. While I do love the more personal, lyric-focused songs on the album, "B2b" is a perfect example of why I am such a big fan of Charli. The focus of this track is entirely on the sound, and it simply sounds incredible. I saw Charli live during her "SWEAT Tour" with Troye Sivan, and while it was a great show, I was a bit upset that she didn't play this song. It has the be the most underrated song on BRAT. 6. Everything is romantic featuring caroline polachek - Charli xcx What an incredible re-imagining of "Everything is romantic." When I first saw that Caroline Polachek was going to be on the remix of "Everything is Romantic," I was skeptical. The style of the original song was completely out of Caroline's element. But Caroline completely made the song her own on the remix album, and in my opinion, she did it better than Charli. This is absolutely more of a Caroline Polachek song than it is a Charli xcx song, and honestly, it's probably my favorite Caroline Polachek song ever. 5. Like That - Future & Metro Boomin I'm not a huge fan of Future, but this song is an undeniable hit. Kendrick's verse is the highlight, of course, and the culture significance of his verse definitely moved "Like That" up a few spots, but I think the entire song was great. I initially only listened to it for Kendrick, but I was surprised to find myself loving the entire track from start to finish. The production from Metro Boomin is also top-notch. 4. Not Like Us - Kendrick Lamar Do I even need to say anything about this song? It was the song of the summer, it's an insanely fun hit, and, of course, there's the lyrics. The "certified pedophiles" and "a-minor" lines are awesome, but my favorite diss is definitely "you're not a colleague, you're a f***ing colonizer." It perfectly encapsulates why Kendrick has such a problem with Drake, and why this beef happened in the first place. I don't think I need to justify putting "Not Like Us" at 4; I think the only thing I may need to justify is putting 3 other songs above it. 3. 365 - Charli xcx My favorite song on my favorite album of the year. I love everything about this track. I love the way is flips the melody and production of the opening track. I love the way it gets more intense as it progresses. And most of all, I love the way it ends. The drop at the end gets the blood pumping, and it's the perfect way to end the album. Finishing with the climax of the album is so BRAT. No need for falling action or a conclusion. 2. euphoria - Kendrick Lamar "Not Like Us" gets all of the attention as the biggest hit with the most bold one-liners, "meet the grahams" gets (deserved) credit for being the most chilling diss track of all-time, but my favorite song to come out of the Kendrick Lamar / Drake beef is "euphoria." The writing and rapping on this song is simply outstanding. To this day I'm still catching new things that I hadn't noticed before. Ultimately, "meet the grahams" and "Not Like Us" were about winning the battle and humiliating Drake, but "euphoria" is really the point Kendrick wanted to make: Drake being an imposter in hip-hop and faking everything to try to fit in. 1. Girl, so confusing featuring lorde - Charli xcx They worked it out on the remix, and the internet went crazy. Charli xcx / Lorde is like the opposite of Kendrick Lamar / Drake. In the original "Girl, so confusing" song, Charli expressed her feelings regarding her complicated relationship with Lorde. How did Lorde respond? By writing a verse for the remix of the song. Most of the time, remixes with guest verses are nothing more than cash-grabs. Nothing of value is added. Girl, so confusing is the complete opposite. Lorde's verse transforms "Girl, so confusing" from a song about awkwardness and spite to a song about friendship. I still get chills every time her verse ends with "I'm glad I know how you feel, 'cuz I'd ride for you, Charli." What a song, and what a moment when it was released. So, that's my top 50. What were your favorite songs of the year? I just put together a Spotify playlist of my top 120 songs of the year, but I'm not going to post all 120. I think I'll just share my top 50. I honestly haven't heard many songs from 2024, but "Disease" by Lady Gaga was catchy I guess... |

I don't think I listened to a single English song in 2024 aside for some from Big Time Rush, AmaLee, and Imagine Dragons. All my favorite stuff was from anime which includes the openings for Mashle, Dan Da Dan, and Moonlit Fantasy. |
