What were your favorite albums that were released in 2024?

Here's my top 5:

5. CHROMAKOPIA - Tyler, the Creator
Tyler's production is on-point as usual, and I love how personal and vulnerable he is on this album. Solid all-around, no songs that absolutely blew me away, but no duds either. Just a very well put together piece of music.

4. GNX - Kendrick Lamar
What a year it was for Kendrick Lamar. All four of his diss tracks against Drake were phenomenal, with euphoria being my second-favorite song of the year. He followed it up with an awesome album in which he reflects on his role in hip-hop and really hones in his Los Angeles roots. Every song on this record is fantastic.

3. Brat and it's completely different but also still brat - Charli xcx
I'm considering this to be an independent album from BRAT because, as the title indicates, it is completely different. While a few of the songs retain the same core, many of them are completely re-written with new lyrics, new melodies, and new production. It is much more of an epilogue than a remix album, and I absolutely love how each song continues the themes of the original, even if the sound is completely different. The features are all fantastic, and I love how Charli really allowed to featured artists to take over each track and make it in their own style. Girl, so confusing with lorde is my favorite song of the year. Writing a song about an uncomfortable relationship with someone, then literally working it out with that person by having them remix the song is just an incredible concept. I also love Caroline Polachek's version of Everything is romantic. Fantastic idea for an album, and it worked incredibly well.

2. Imaginal Disk - Magdalena Bay
I don't even know how to describe Imaginal Disk. The production is so maximalist. There are so many different sounds happening on each and every song, yet it works so well. The transitions between each song are seamless, making it feel like one cohesive work rather than a collection of individual songs. Imaginal Disk is simply a masterpiece.

1. BRAT - Charli xcx
I've loved Charli's music for a while now, and I'm so happy that she is finally getting the recognition and the commercial success that she has deserved since Pop 2. BRAT is one of the most fun albums I've ever listened to. 365 is a jam. B2b is a jam. Von dutch is a jam. Mean girls is a jam. Yet it's not all superficial dance music. Charli gets personal in a beautiful way on songs like So I, Sympathy is a knife, I might say something stupid, and I think about it all the time. BRAT was by far my most listened-to album of 2024, and I'm still not sick of it. It's still just as enjoyable to listen to now as it was during the summer.
