Wire Sponge is a reploid, cyborgs who share human features such as the ability to think logical, make decisions, have feelings as well as DNA, who appeared in Mega Man X2. He was also a Maverick, reploids who pose a risk to the world, so lets learn about this maverick.


Wire Sponge is based off sponges that live in the ocean. Unlike some of the other reploids, who went maverick, he was a maverick from the start. He was created by Sigma when he took over a reploid factory when he went maverick. Sigma designed him and had his mavericks build him. However, Sponge had a programming error that gave him a split personality disorder. He could be violent one minute but very child like. When his personality alters he likes to go on rampages or dance like a child.

Despite him being child like Sigma was impressed with his abilities so he ordered him to take over an Island that was being used as weather lab. The Island was his perfect playground as he loved using the base to mess with the weather control system. Before he took over the weather control system would be used to alter the weather on the Island so weather could be studied. He loved messing with the Island's control center. He also set up a base. The base was also being used so Sigma's creations could be trained on combat in different weather elements. The Weather Control System could produce foggy conditions, excessive heat, and stormy patterns. It was a perfect training spot for the Mavericks.

Due to forcing the workers and scientists at the weather base to flee and due to the island being used as a Maverick base. X goes to the Island to liberate it from the Mavericks. He eventually encounters Wire Sponge and destroys him. After Wire Sponge is destroyed the Weather Island is liberated from the Mavericks, and the scientists and workers could return as it was now safe.

Appearance- Wire Sponge has mostly neon green armor. His shoulders are purple, and he has black legs as well as arms. He has a yellow thorn on top of his head. His thorn acts like a lightning rod. He also has several thorny cables coming out of his body.

Abilities- Wire Sponge has the ability to generate lightning bolts when he charges himself up. He can also use plants and create thorns. His cables can be used as a thorny chain. He has average speed and power.

Attacks- Wire Sponge has several ways to attack his opponents. He can spin his cable in front of him creating a shield. The spin shield can deflect shots and be used for defense. Strike Chain, Wire Sponge will use his thorny chains to strike at the player. He can also charge the chain up with electricity to make it do even more damage. He can also launch seeds. The seeds grow into thorns that can strike his opponents. His other attack is he will dance around while charging himself up then he will generate lightning bolts.

Weakness- Being a sponge and similar to a plant he is week to the slicer weapon. The Slicer weapon slices him and can cut him down. His seeds can also be taken out with charged shots.

If the player defeats him they will get his strike Chain. The Strike Chain can send a chain out. Not only can the chain be used to strike enemies, but it can also be used to attack to the walls. Basically, it can be used as a weapon and an item getter. When fully charged the chain can become longer.

Wire Sponge is a maverick who is child like. One minute he can go on violent rampages. The next minute he could be dancing around. He is technically both a nature and electric maverick. He can use thorns in combat he can also create thorns from his seeds. He can create electricity when he charges up and does his lightning dance. Given his power and speed he has average speed and power. He is also well balanced on offense and defense.

As a Meteorologist I always liked his stage due to the alternating weather. It should be noted different weapons also create different weather conditions in his stage. Therefore, he is one of the fun mavericks to fight. This concludes the Wire Sponge Review.
