Story time. This was one of two games I’ve encountered on a PSP back in 2012. It was a modded PSP with some games that were emulation. In the emulation I’ve seen one that said “CPSII” and thought it was like an 80s console emulator. I was so wrong when I clicked and saw what games they had to offer in that emulator. Dark Stalkers 3, Street Fighter Alpha 3, Marvel vs Capcom : clash of super heroes and Marvel Super Heroes vs Street Fighter. This review I’m going to go with the next fighting game of the series that I unintentionally started. This is Marvel Super Heroes vs Street Fighter for Arcade (used on Emulation)

Story: 6

Apocalypse returns to destroy mankind and mutant kind alike and it’s up to the Street Fighter and Marvel Heroes (or villains) to team up and face the evil. Would you able to save the earth or let it be ruined?

The story is basically a rehash of the previous title (X-men vs Street Fighter) and it’s a bit lazy for me. They could’ve done a better job instead of creating a similar situation that they with Street Fighter II updates (Just updating the roster or mechanics but not the story)

It’s a 6 out of 10. Same story as the previous game. Lazy work.

Graphics : 7

The game consists of beautiful character models and stages but the issue… they’re mostly reused again from previous titles. Yeah some characters have new animations and moves which is a welcoming addition but wanted at least a visual upgrade from last year’s game to now. The animation is smooth as ever and the stages, some have been reworked from the previous title. The stages have more personality and feel more crowded than the last title and some cameos in the background are present.

The attract mode shows off the characters and new characters showing up and demos of characters fighting each other. Issue is the flashing lights and lightning make it hard for people who are photosensitive.

Not much to say. The graphics is a 7 out of 10. The game is beautiful no doubt but some stages are reused and character models haven’t changed which was the issue I had.

Sound : 9

The sound of the game is beautiful and most of the music has been reworked or remixed.

The sound effects sound a bit more clear and the narrator still has a bass that packs a voice. “WELCOME TO THE ADVENTURE” is what you’re greeted with when inserting your quarters and start the process of a catchy character select song while choosing your players.

The music, some are pretty good and iconic like Captain America and Shuma Gorath. Some have theirs remixed which are good but not as good as the original… example is Spider-Man and Ryu. Some have been reworked and just feels so off with a more orchestrated sound to it. Hit and bangers with a few misses but nothing negative.

The sound is a 9 out of 10. Music is great for the most part. Sound effects and voices are a lot better than the previous game.

Depth : 9

The game still offers and retains most, if not all, mechanics and features the previous titles has brought. One feature that has been added was “Variable assist” which brings out your player to attack with a special move, usually resulting to numerous variations and openings to create or extend a combo or attack. “Hyper Combos” are still present and also “Tag combos” which use 1 and 2 bars of gauge respectively.

Players returning to the game from Street Fighter side is Ryu, Ken, Chun Li, Dhalsim, Zangief, M. Bison and Akuma with Sakura and Dan making their first appearance in the series. For the Marvel side, only two characters return from the previous game with Wolverine and Cyclops and new to the Vs series is Hulk, Blackheart, Spider-Man, Captain America, Shuma Gorath and Omega Red.

Game modes don’t have much to offer other than the arcade and the game is like the previous installment, two vs two fight where the first team to have both players health to zero or least amount when the timer goes to zero is the loser. The Vs. two player is always a great addition.

Overall it’s a decent 9 out of 10. Same mechanics as the last game.

Difficulty : 8

The game has a high difficulty spike than the previous title. Characters tend to block more and some new mechanics like the variable assist can cause some issues with gameplay. The “Ryu and Cyclops” combo from the previous game has been nerfed which is great. Balances have been made to make the game more enjoyable and the speed of the game has been lowered a bit. The final two bosses… cheap most of the time.

Difficulty is an 8 out of 10. Cheap blocks and counters with difficult last bosses.

Addictive : 9

Again the game is all about playing with other people. Lots of hours invested playing against one another. Game has some balances but still has some exploits that makes the game more entertaining than an hindrance. The fact of an expansive marvel universe is in use makes the game more enjoyable choosing your favorite heroes.

Arcade mode has some fun with trying to get an ending of each character and learning how to use them. Different play styles and combinations of tag teams also has some replay ability in the game.

Overall it’s a 9 out of 10. Same as the previous installment but it’s still very good.

Overall the game itself somewhat felt like a lazy upgrade with marvel characters instead of all X-men. Sprites haven’t changed much and stages are more so the same but with more features. Though the game is still very enjoyable to play but it’s probably a game that you can skip without much drawbacks.
