Axle the Red also known as Spike Rosered is a Maverick from Mega Man X5. Here is a bio about this mysterious maverick.

First, he was named after Axle Rose leader of the Rock Band Gun's N Roses. Capcom was a huge fan of the Rock band. That is why most characters in MMX5 have Guns N Roses references. He is based off of plants. Therefore, he is a nature themed Maverick. He is a lot like Plant Man from the classic Mega Man series. In this case Plant Man appeared in Mega Man 6. Both are nature themed bosses.

Unlike other characters in MMX5 not much is known about Axle the Red. He was created due to a rare mutation. This made him on the radar of the Maverick Hunters. On the other hand, it also made him a target of Sigma, who always wants new mutations so he can spread the Sigma Virus. This left Axle feeling paranoid.

Due to being on the radar from the Hunters as the Hunters thought his mutation may make him dangerous, and being hunted by Sigma to use his mutation for his own bidding. Axle hid himself in an old Repliforce military base in the Jungle somewhere. When the Space Colony was going to crash into Earth unless X and Zero stopped it they encountered Axle.

Given by his dialogue as playing as X or Zero. It is clear that he has been around for a while. He tells the Maverick Hunters that he did not trust their methods. This is a reference to the Repliforce incident. As most likely Axle saw both organizations nearly destroy one another in MMX4. He also states he does not care what happens to the earth. If the Earth is in a crisis he can use the anarchy to his advantage stating he can steal whatever he wanted. What he failed to understand is that if the Space Colony crashed into Earth he might have been killed too.

Still, he challenged X and Zero due to getting infected with the Sigma Virus, and the two were forced to destroy him. In defeating him they gained the Orbital Engine which they used to fly a shuttle into the Space Colony. Preventing a disaster of epic proportions.

Personality wise Axle is very paranoid. He thinks everyone is out to get him. This is of course due to his rare mutation. He seems to have no respect for anything. Moreover, he seems to like anarchy. Especially when he says if the Earth is in a Crisis I can steal and do what I want. He seems to be a little insane as well. In another dialogue he tells X/Zero did you think you can just steal it go away or I will call the Maverick Hunters. He is not even aware that he is talking to the Hunters. In addition, he admitted he was a thief himself. Most likely he is insane because he is being infected with the Sigma Virus at this point. He is also stubborn. If he has not been infected by the Sigma Virus he will still refuse to work with X/Zero. Stating he has no use for them. Even as a non maverick X and Zero still have to fight him. Basically, Axle is paranoid, lacks empathy, is stubborn, and arrogant. His own actions lead to his defeat rather it be the Sigma Virus infecting him or his own personality.

His main weapons are his powerful Strike weapon. This is when he will send a torn of dangerous spikes out at the player. His most dangerous weapon is his large spike ball. This is a large ball with spikes on it. The ball can bounce around the room and hit multiple times. His third way of attacking is creating clones of himself. The clones will run around and also attack. His fourth attack is causing thorny rose spikes to drop down. This makes his weapons dangerous and powerful. Axle also fights dirty as he tells X and Zero he will do whatever he has to do to win a fight.

His main weakness is the fire weapon. Being a Nature theme maverick he is weak to anything fire related. Again, this is similar to Plant Man from Mega Man 6 who was weak to fire, and ice.
