don't know why I love Demon Slayer so much since I've only seen like 3 episodes of the anime but ever since I saw the movie in theaters last year, I fell in love. When the game was announced, I was pretty excited to try it out but I was tired of it following the usual "games that are based on anime are fighting games 90% of the time" trend. But I grabbed a copy of the PS4 version and put a lot of time into it and then the Switch version came out recently so I got a copy of this one too and started liking it even more.

GRAPHICS: 9/10

For me, the coolest aspect of the anime was the insane visuals. Battles always looked stunning and it's no different here. Many of the cutscenes and images are very good, some of which are taken straight from the anime and many of the moves also look like they simply ported the animations because most of the time they look gorgeous. If you're playing on the OLED then it looks even better because the colors and contrast really pops out so much more. Overall, the game looks very good.

SOUND: 9/10

If I'm being completely honest, if the game didn't have voices and they didn't bring back their English cast from the anime, I probably wouldn't have gotten into it. One of the reasons that I liked the movie so much was because of Rengoku. I really liked the character and in English, he was voiced by one of my favorite voice actors so I really liked that. All of the characters have their actors returning for the game and you can play with both English and Japanese voices so that's really cool.

As for the music, I didn't really care too much. Even with what I've seen of the anime, I didn't care too much for the soundtrack other than the opening and it's pretty much the same case here. But for me, it was the voice acting that carried this category and it was very good.

ADDICTIVENESS: 7/10

The coolest thing about the game and gameplay is that there's an Adventure Mode where you can follow along with what happens in the first season of the anime. This was how I ended up getting most of my info on what happens in the show before the movie, and that only made me more interested in eventually getting into the anime. If you have already seen the first season, then this gets a bit redundant but if you're a newcomer, then it could be a perfect starting point into the series for you.

You also have your standard arcade mode for both offline and offline. But, other than that, there isn't much going on. You'll have fun with the characters, with your friends, and with the Adventure Mode but that might be it.

STORY: ????

All the Adventure Mode does is follow the story of the anime. You follow Tanjiros journey to save Nezuko and become a Demon Slayer but there isn't anything new that makes it stand out as it's own in this game. But like I mentioned earlier, it's a great starting point if you're new to Demon Slayer.

DEPTH: 6/10

In terms of the amount of content, this is probably my least favorite fighting game because there isn't a lot do to and there's a ton of stuff that requires Kimetsu Points to unlock. For the game as a whole, you have a few game modes, more than 20 characters to choose from, and a ton of stages. If you play the game a lot, you can unlock things like images, clothing, and songs using points. There isn't a whole lot to do but thankfully, content isn't the main selling point of the game. You're most likely playing for the story mode, the graphics, the characters, and the Demon Slayer name. You'll be occupied for a while if you're a fan.

DIFFICULTY: 6

Somebody who is both good at fighting games AND knows all the Demon Slayer characters and moves will have a tremendous advantage. The game will get really tough if you aren't good at the genre or you just don't know Demon Slayer well enough. It was definitely really tough for me when I first started, I think I lost one out of evrery three fights during the first couple days that I played.

FINAL THOUGHTS: 8/10

If you're thinking of checking out this game, there are two things that need to work. You need to aleady have at least an interest in Demon Slayer to an extent whether it's the anime, the memes, or just the community. You must also wait until the game goes on sale. All versions have gone on sale multiple times this year so it shouldn't be too hard to get a cheap copy and paying the full $60 just isn't worth it. Overall, the game looks great, sounds great, and is pretty fun. The game is great for someone who's already a Demon Slayer fan and gets an 8 out of 10 for me.
