Has anyone programmed before? If so, what language have you programmed in? It can be multiple and could be describing the first programming language you have programmed in before. Sharing stories is also accepted, and it would be intriguing to hear about them. Here is my story, and I have used programming languages in my past. My first programming language was Python, since I am going to a technical college, that was one of my classes. I eventually wanted to try another programming language, which is known as C#. C# is a lower-level programming language that uses the .NET framework by Microsoft. This year, I have made a project that uses both languages, and they are able to communicate with each other through socket programming. Socket programming is network-based and allows you to send messages through the network, from an IP address (or you could also use localhost).

A brief history of my experience with programming-

When I turned 18 I decided I finally wanted to learn a programming language. I always wanted to make games and had messed around with RPG Maker quite a bit already but I wanted to move on from that. I started studying C++ for a while and didn't really get very far with it. I learned about classes and structs and made a basic text adventure with it before I decided I wasn't really enjoying it that much.

I tried out C# a few months later and got to multithreading before once again deciding to stop. I also dabbled with Python for a bit after that but didn't stick with that for more than a day. Fast forward to 2020, I discover an engine called Defold that uses lua script. I made a dumb little clicker game for a game jam and also decided I didn't really like how the engine flowed. Fast forward one more year to 2021 and I decided to try out Godot which has its own scripting language called gdscript. I followed a tutorial on how to make a simple platformer in the engine and then went on to make a sidescrolling shooter for another game jam. This is the engine that finally stuck for me, later that same year I made my first 3D game for the secret santa jam. It's a horror game involving balloons called Bob's Balloons.

In summary, I got into programming because I wanted to make games and then I realized that you don't have to build everything from the ground up to make a decent game. There are quite a few options out there as far as engines these days.

To be honest, I have never made a game before, but I also have attempted to port mods in the past from Kade Engine to Psych Engine for Friday Night Funkin. I have begun playing that game this year and became intrigued with how mods were created, and some mods are still under Kade Engine, which you can port to Psych Engine, which IMO is better than Kade because I believe Kade has some weird input bug. I could attempt to make a game, but I don't have any ideas on what kind of game I would like to make.

RjGunner111 : I forgot to mention, that I did attempt to learn C++ and still am attempting to, but it can be challenging to learn because it is an advanced language. I am making a program about it, which has my own menu with sites you could go to (re-inventing the wheel just for fun) and also creating a text box, kinda like MFC. The furthest I was able to go in making the text box was allowing you to write text, but the text goes nowhere for now. I plan on making it have a feature where you can edit txt documents and save them and also open them. (editing: I will be sure to remember that for next time, as I have edited one of the posts that already exists, thanks for the tip!

I'm glad you're having fun with programming. I think the next step for me with C++ was gonna be the file I/O stuff but I just wasn't feeling it anymore. I think it depends on what you want to do with it. In your case, it sounds like you're just enjoying learning the language in general. I went in with a specific goal in mind and discovered how much of a leap it would have been but then I found tools that were already designed for what I had in mind.

Also just a note for the future, you should use the edit post feature if you need to add something to your post instead of double posting.

Edit- Ah, the site glitched and double posted lol.
