Two weeks ago I found out about the Legends Of Johto Pin Collection. It's a Gamestop exclusive box of Pokemon cards that was not only going to be released on Black Friday, but would also be on sale for Black Friday for 50% off. The "normal" price for the box is $50 but was dropped to $25 for Black Friday.
On paper, that sounds like a steal. $25 for 9 packs of cards and 3 pins. 9 packs for $25 on its own is a steal because a normal ETB costs you $40 for only 8 packs. The real kicker though is what the packs are. For $25 you get 3 packs each of Sun and Moon, Steam Siege, and Evolutions.
That's right, for $25 you get 3 packs of XY Evolutions, and then you basically get 6 other packs and 3 pins for free. The 3 packs of Evolutions alone make up the $25 price so I decided I wanted to get a couple and I ordered two, both of them came in yesterday and I was really excited because I easily made my money back.
The Steam Siege was trash. In 6 packs the best card I pulled was Break card and nothing else good. The S&M packs were much much better with 4 GX cards.
The real prize was in the Evolutions packs. I didn't get any of the monster cards but out of the 6 packs, the 5 best cards alone covered the $50 I paid for both boxes.
I pulled two Mews but the real stars of the packs were an M Charizard EX and a M Blastoise EX Full Art.
