Playstation recently released the PS5 Remote Play app on PS4's, and I just can't think of a good enough reason to use it.

How is PS5 Remote Play going to work? You turn on your PS5 on one TV. On another TV you turn on your PS4 and you stream your PS5 games on your PS4.

I mean come on, the only logical reason for you to do this is if your PS4 and PS5 are on different floors of your house because:

A. You need a lot of Internet, and I'm not saying the amount of internet required to stream Netlix or Youtube, games that are as high powered as the PS5 will require a much stronger connection than other forms of streaming.

B. In that same light, playing a full PS5 game on a PS4 will probably suffer both graphically and technically

Heck, at this point, if it's not a PS5 exclusive, you might be better off just getting the PS4 version of a game if it's going to be downgraded to PS4 quality anyway.

The number of people who actually use this feature are going to be very small, this is specifically for people who can't be bothered to move their PS5 from one TV to another, have games that are strictly PS5, have a strong internet connection, AND don't mind the downgrade from playing on a PS4.

I just don't think it's worth it.

I've seen that app, and it really is a dumb idea. Having the VITA as a remote play was at least well-thought because we're talking about a portable device, but two consoles and even more now that they are so similar to each other, at least more than any other generation excluding the Microsoft systems, it's excessively dumb.

I need to buy a PS5 for this remote play to happen and I need it turned on to activate it. Then why the hell would I use my PS4? The PS5 being plugged to a TV I can't use is the only reason I can think of, but who would put their main and latest-gen console on a TV they can't use every time they wish?

This is quite the strange move from Sony, and it will surely be a big flop. If it meant being able to play PS5 games on a PS4 but WITHOUT all that hassle then it would have some use, as people would still buy PS5 games despite knowing they'll play to lower quality in an older-gen console, but I guess that's not in Sony's best interests seeing how long they take to make benefits out of their hardware.

We'll see if this even stays up when 2021 hits, it could last so shortly that those of us who saw it could talk about this extreme rarity several years from now.

EX Palen : Most people I know who got a PS5 ended up selling or trading in their PS4's to pay for them or will do this, so the fact that you need to have both alone is crazy. Literally if you intend on doing this, then there's no reason to play the PS5 versions of the games, but if you don't have/play those, then there's no reason to get a PS5 to begin with.

Let me play devil's advocate here. I believe you could put a secondary account on your friend's PS4, and stream your PS5 to it. That way you don't need to bring it over in order to play. Vita remote play allowed you to stream from extremely long distances, so I could see this as a use.
Of course, you would still need great Internet on both ends, and with the inevitable input lag, I'm not sure why you'd want to do this. Either way, it does have some use, probably for a very small number of people.

pennylessz : If I'm not mistaken, I'm pretty sure that both will need to be wired to the same internet source.
