Final Fantasy XVI is going to be a thing. This is Not something I was expecting for years, especially after how long it took them to make XV and it's overall success.

I was really hoping that the PS5 Showcase would have some crazy surprise drop and Final Fantasy XVI definitely fits the bill, it's already one of the games that I'm most hyped for.

I noticed that it said Playstation Console exclusive. I wonder if that only means it will be PS5 and not XBOXX or if it also means it will be available for PS4 too.

Thoughts?

I was going to be more concerned for the basic tone of screw the mother crystal but then found out this is Yoshi-P's baby so I'm a bit more relaxed on it. Not a big fan of the current deconstruction trend of torch the past. Can't wait to get on PC

I mean it's been 4 years since XV came out.. So i'm not sure why you wasn't expecting that FFXVI would be announced.. The game hasn't even got a release date period.. so yeah.. don't expect it any time soon.

As for the destruction of the past... I mean there's only so many times you can write a story about the four crystals...

sonicmcmuffin : Well last time Yoshi P's story was a lot more the 4... think there's 6 basic elemental crystals(lightning, fire, wind, ice, earth and water) then 2 for light(Mother/Hydaelyn) and dark(Zodiark). Not to mention large chunk of the series has ignored the crystals entirely. Namely 6 7 8 9 10 12 13 15(11 elemental crystals were just for crafting 14 went back to the roots with gathering the crystals as a guide on the base game and hw expansion).

Just me or was the hero in the trailer looking like King Noctis? Also as for date considering Yoshi P is still heavily active on developing 14 not sure how long that will delay things.

I probably wouldn't be so worried on the bury the past theme except after what Star Wars, Terminator, ect have wound up I dunno deconstructionism is not my cup of tea

Oh i know about 14, I played it for a few years... Lost interest after a few major falling outs between friends and i was stuck on my lonesome ironically (they all fell out with each other.. not me to clarify) kinda sucked too as i just bought shadowbringers

I know a lot of the final fantasy games involve crystals just not in the same sense as the first ones. I think part of it comes down to probably difficulty in writing a compelling story with it, whilst also being original. Especially now that games are more story inclined. I imagine that if you released a RPG similar to the vagueness of Final Fantasy 1 and Dragon Warrior 1.. it'd get hefty criticism.. even though personally i kinda miss rpg's like that...
