I was a bit bored this afternoon and I happened to see the free 7 day trial for PS Now, so I delved into it and it looks like promising stuff.

I tried to find information about it on the net, and overall it does look good. Being able to download a good multitude of games for a small price can't be overlooked, but still some questions arise that are left unanswered as of now and thus the viability of subscribing to it is left on air. I could always try to find the answer on my own by doing the trial, but I won't boot it up until normality returns in some 10 days at least and so I'm posting this in the meantime.

Has anyone subscribed to this or has used the free trial? Any recommendations or suggestions on using it? How was your experience?

I tried it for about two months last year. Seeing as there are a lot of games that just absolutely refuse to be ported for some reason *cough* metal gear solid series *cough* I thought I'd try it out and relive some of my favorite games again. The library of games it has is surprisingly massive, and especially the fact that it has older gen games makes it definitely worth the price on paper.

It's not horrible, but you can pretty easily tell it's being streamed to your console if you're playing any of the PS2 or PS3 versions. Quality changes every few minutes, sometimes you get input lag (or just lag in general), it's all up to how your internet and how their servers are feeling at that moment. I have times where I have no problems of course, and it's always great to experience it like that. It's just annoying when they do happen.

The download games are absolutely worth it, though. None of the aforementioned problems can happen to you. I'd say do the trial, but make sure to try out a few of the streaming games and see how you like that. Maybe I only had those problems when my mother was watching Netflix or something like that.

If you use PS4, keep it hardwired. I'm pretty sure you can use it on PC, which is better, but that should be hardwired too. Streaming technology just isn't there yet, so I heavily suggest you play mostly RPGs if you're streaming. As for download games, why not just make a list of what you want to play on there? No harm in going through those and then being done with it. If there's too many to finish, then maybe PS Now really is a good option for you.

When I get into it and see that massive library though, I often think two things.

"There's too many choices, I'll just play this random arcade style game instead."

and...

"If I play anything important, I know my save will be trapped on Sony's server, so I won't be able to come back to it unless I resubscribe."

If neither of those concepts bother you, it'll probably be fine. You should ask Clover, he's into the game streaming services.

Minuano : Yeah, the number of games is just insane, that's why I thought there had to be some traps.

I don't know what the quality of my internet is, since I haven't tried streaming or playing online, but I'm the only one who uses the internet at home (my parents don't use anything beyond their phones and never for bigger use than whatsapp or mobile games) so I can control that aspect.

pennylessz : So, you don't recommend the streamed games if I use wi-fi? I don't think I'd go for streamed games either, but it's good to know it'd be better to use a cable connection.

I'm not sure how my aging PC can handle this, it'd be kind of a last resort because I reserve playing videogames for fun on my consoles and leave PC for work and other uses. It doesn't use wi-fi, though, so if I can get a better result on here than in my PS4 simply due to that it could be worth the try.

I already have a rough list of games I'd like to try out, and I say try out because there's no word I'll play them thoroughly. That's my main use of this service, since demos seem to be on a downfall. But once I'm ready for the trial, I'll do a full list of what I want to try and which are donwloadable, which should be my first focus.

About the save file being trapped in Sony's server, that only happens for streaming games I presume. Do you happen to know if downloadable games work as if I bought/downloaded them from the PSN Store or do they also get deleted or their save files trapped on a server if I cancel my subscription?
