Been watching a bit of old movies like from 80s to 90s and it kinda made me wonder if the world we see today, literally, is different than what people seen back in the days. No not like politics or global warming but literally, eyesight. I know it sounds so stupid but it’s late at night and I just had these weird thought process. Was the tone back then so much warmer and yellow-ish (sun) than it is today? Dreams less sharp but more realistic in a way?

Like for example as a kid I always seen things with a bit more blue tone-ish (?) view. Not like things are blue or had blue in it but was more in a cool setting (when I lived in Los Angeles and still had it when moved to Oklahoma until like idk maybe my 5th grade?). Maybe I was the only one who saw it like that or it was just a norm for most people to see the world like that???

I mean, purely eyesight? Perhaps a result of significant environmental changes such as global warming could be changing the way the sky looks, etc. but I personally don't really see a difference between, say now and 10 years ago.

Of course our eyes themselves can also be culprits. Maybe you just have weird eyes.

Color was likely distorted somewhat in older movies, so that's a given it would appear different than today. Screens have trouble producing the color yellow, if I remember correctly, so it will never be perfectly accurate.

As for your childhood, did you actively acknowledge this blue tint as a child? When did you first acknowledge the shift? On occasion, memories also get distorted, mine have a sort of fuzzy cloud view in some instances. One time, this blur translated into a dream, and it was horrifying to experience.

This is really interesting to think about. I can't remember visual details from my childhood very clearly. However, my eyes have always been sensitive, so I have to wonder if my view of the world has changed or has just been different.

*Sighs* I clearly remember my childhood from age 3 or 4 I was very young when my dad and my big bro were playing super mario kart with the super nintendo console that was the day I knew I was going to be a gamer. I was born in Nov 1990 I say I was born on a good date before 1991 roled around. I remember how things were very different for me would be what I grew up watching and the kind of people I got to meet who were a lot nicer than you see in todays era. its a different shift as of what happened back then and whats happening now. its just sad you know? if I were to watch something I get my harddrive out watch most of the movies or anime that was in the 90s era I cant really bring myself to watch most of any movies that are out today. the only movie I watched in the cinema was Sonic The Hedgehog which I very much enjoyed and now waiting for that sequel thats in the works. things dont stay the same which is why we have to make the best of what we have today even if its full of lots of negativity. if you feel that just...go to your happy place it helps.

To be honest I was sleep deprived when I made this thread... but yeah.

Minuano :
pennylessz :

maybe I do have weird eyes or like penny said my memory might be distorted. I mean I did notice blue hue as a kid from time to time, either when I wake up after sleeping on the grass as a kid (when kids actually went outside instead of on technology) or at random moments when doing some activities like basketball or at the park, tho if I recall I was very young like 5-8 with these experiences. The hue seemed a lot more of a cooler tone or maybe things were just calmer who knows? I know older movies aren’t as clear as today’s but if you compare them to the current films old movies just seem more grounded and realistic visually like you’re part of that time frame (in my opinion)

Pacman+Mariofan :
johuku :

Pac-Man, maybe mine are too like I often reminisce how things are back then and again like I said earlier it just feels like everything had a cooler hue or contrast compared to more recent memories (like middle school or even a few weeks ago) I mean maybe the world is changing from the climate change penny referred to or it’s just something each individual experiences differently I guess. Like watching old films (especially like 90s and 80s) things seem to blend in a lot better and well.. maybe it warps our memories a bit to have that kind of tone and atmosphere in our memories?

Eniitan :
I understand what you mean. People seemed a lot friendlier back then but maybe because we were young and not many people would disrespect or be rude towards kids, or it’s just how the norm was before the use of technology and problems throughout the globe? Things do shift as time goes forward and to reminisce such memories from our past or go through our nostalgia watching old films or games is a nice escape especially when times of negativity from time but in the end we do have to accept that we have to be in current times and make the best out of it. It’s a shame too because the innocence we had as kids seems like a dream to have today, I often wish to have that one moment again, even if it’s just for a day

becerra95 : Yeah, I think it's more of an individual experience. Good point about watching old movies! I feel like older movies are easier to watch than the super bright and higher quality movies of today.
