(MINOR SPOILER WARNING)
Some time ago, Toho decided it was time to make another Godzilla game and said: "Hey, let's make it a trading card game!". This is Godzilla Trading Battle for the PS1. It has been a very long time since I posted anything, so I hope this goes well. I am going to over the ratings first then go over my general thoughts and feelings about the game.

Graphics- 7
The intro movie looks cool, but the actual gameplay is comprised of sprites that look pretty close to the actual movies. as for the battle animation, that department is rather....lack luster.

Sound-6
The soundtrack is nothing special, the battle music is kinda catchy but the cutscene music is bland and sounds like a remix of "soft kitty". as for sound effects, it's those classic Godzilla monster roars, and each monster uses their own roar. It's cool at first, but after hearing some of the high-pitch ones a bunch, it gets old.

Addictive- 8
I was able to play this game without learning Japanese, it's basically yu-gi-oh, and seeing your characters level up and evolve is surprisingly rewarding.

Story- 6
I gave it a very mediocre score because no matter what side you choose (Monsters or Military) the basic concept is the same: aliens are attacking, and you with your army of monsters and/or military must stop them. Aliens are pretty common in Godzilla so this is par for the course.

Depth- 7
It's basically a card game that lets you level up your cards and evolve them in some cases. There are other modes other than the story, like trading, as well as battles for after you have beaten the story.

Difficulty- 7
If you want to win, you need some kind of strategy or the AI will mop you up fast. I like to play defense and try to kill all the AI's monsters as fast as possible since the AI usually chooses to all-out invade you anyway. Remember: location cards are bases that expand your cost, and the cost is used to deploy monsters.

Overall- 7.5
I think a Godzilla fan would get more out of this than your average Joe. This is a kinda fun Godzilla card game that is the closest we have to a Godzilla RPG. The starting roster for the monster side is what you might expect, Minilla (who evolves into Godzilla), Larva Mothra, Rodan, Anguirus, etc. We also have a few new monsters and Zilla from the 1998 Godzilla movie is here as well. Give it a shot if you like Godzilla or obscure card games.

pkmntrainersonic : Firstly welcome back to the site, It's nice to see old members come back to post from time to time.

It's a good solid review for a niche game for sure.

The only thing i would personally suggest is that if you think a game is lacking in an area give it a score that reflects your views. e.g you said the story was very mediocre but still gave it a 6. Obviously this is down to the reviewers discretion but if very mediocre is 6... how bad does a game have to be to score 3 for example.

Regardless thanks for taking the time to write the review and hopefully we will see you more around the site.

sonicmcmuffin : Thank you for the feedback, I will certainly take it into consideration.

I do plan on posting more reviews for games in the future, especially for games that not a lot of people may know about, like this game for example.

I'm glad I know that this exists now XD One of my friends at college is always talking about Godzilla so I wonder if he has heard of this game. Going into this review, I thought you were going to say this was a weird idea and not a good game. I'm glad to see that's not what happened. Good job talking about what was good and bad about the game! There wasn't much detail for certain things you were explaining, but you said that you hadn't posted in a while so that's understandable.

I'm impressed that a trading card game would stick pretty close to the concepts/stories it's based off of. I and my friend might have to check this out someday!
