I'm open for ideas on the extra competition of the VCS. So far, my ideas are:

- With my ability to edit virtually any page, I can do a sort of scavenger hunt thing, and you would tell me what page exactly that I edited. The edit itself would be obvious but I would be digging pretty deep in Vizzed pages not commonly accessed (but still accessible of course) for this. Furret disqualified since he can see my log! 3 points for the first person to find it, 2 points for the second, and 1 point for anyone else. Of course, you would tell me in private.

- Posting rivals. Briefly explained, you would be choosing a rival at the beginning of the competition and have a sort of 1v1. Each day, the person who posted more gains a point on their own side. If you both post the same amount one day, you both get a point. There can also be a variation of this where there are sign-ups and your rival is randomly picked. If one of these is received well, I'll definitely do the other. At the moment, this will only work during a month with 31 days to prevent a tie. If you still somehow end up with a tie by posting the same amount every single day I will know it was planned and will punch you in the e-face (though I'll still give you prizes because I'll laugh at how premeditated it was). I could do total posts instead, but that opens the door for one person to demolish the other in just a day. I'll definitely take suggestions on this one. (also, thanks to legacyme3 for helping to build the idea)

- Post words. Just post the most words. Simple enough. No teams for this one; too easily abuse-able.

In addition to these ideas, following results from the April VCS (and how the winner had guaranteed his spot, which I would prefer to not happen all the time), I'm playing with the idea of double point days. My idea at the moment is six scheduled ones (5th, 10th, 15th, 20th, 25th, 30th) and I will sprinkle in three random ones as well (these would be announced a few hours before the day).

Of course, I'm taking feedback on all aspects as well if you wish to address something that I haven't mentioned.

I'll throw some Viz your way for every suggestion (I'm not giving you any for s***posts, I know a few of you are there ;p) even if I don't end up using it.

Tho seriously why not let furret do some part of the scavenger also? Like one day you edit next day he edits or something so you don’t have to do all the work? That’s the best I got other than putting more stricter rules dunno

Nah, Furret can put his own stuff if he wants. I meant he can't tell me my own placements since he has access to the admin logs which will tell him exactly where I put it, at least easier than actually searching for it lol.

Forgot to mention that I'll obviously leave a hint every day if I end up going with that.

Then why not just bar furret for every activity then since he’s not going to have fun? He’s going to start typing "All work and no play makes Furret a dull boy” soon in threads. Surprised he hasn’t yet by how bad your jokes are



Also the double points or whatever it is can be a double edged sword. Maybe make it more like a reward “if one of the users hit first place that day but he’s not placed first in the rankings will receive double points” or something like that? I don’t know I just see it as an opportunity to widen the gap for first place I guess

I already spoke to you in private about this stuff earlier, over the course of the month, while I was competing, but I've been thinking more ideas up as well.

I like the idea of a scavenger hunt, but I worry it might get a little too obscure. Like who is going to look at a thread from 10 years ago for example? I'm assuming you'd be giving hints.

The scavenger hunt sounds good for right after a TdV. Normally those months are cooldown periods, so a competition that doesn't involve posting but rather just investigation and navigating the site is perfect to keep the site busy.

Post words seems a logical idea. To my knowledge no VCS on its original run focused on that, which would mean it's the only other big TdV jersey we haven't focused on. In the case I'm wrong and at least one was hosted this way, it's still logical to follow the footsteps of the previous VCS because the amount of spam nowadays isn't as heavy and can be countered more effectively.

I won't suggest one based on CP. It would be a good idea to contribute in more ways than posting and maybe follow the TdVs example of double CP days, but I don't think it's a good follow-up, I'd rather wait until September or so to host it.

i have different idea as well. with adding video games tips as well with comments. plus if you posted and tags your posted to another site. i think we get more ppl joining here and bonus points idea too.

@minuano: You know how the TDV had double CP days? Well what if each day there was a posting action that would score extra?

Maybe one day, posts in a specific forum are weighted more? Or one day a review counts as more? Or other actions?

I'm not sure of how you'd do this but it'd be great if there was an incentive for people to actually create new threads.

It's a lot easier to post in new threads than old ones, not to mention they are more relevant. Obviously this doesn't mean make 900 threads about things that already exist but y'know what i mean.

Creativity lacking aside how about just soon goofy awards at the end of a VCS... As an admin you could easily just conjure awards for what caught your attention or even simple things like who posted the most in their own threads etc...

I mean my main suggestion would be to hold a vcs every 2 months so that there's a cooldown month between each VCS/TDV but that's just me.

Although May will remain basic-ish, I'm definitely going to be using the ideas you guys had for future VCS (August? September? we'll see) since I now have plenty of time to deliberate how I want to implement these ideas. I simply went with the thread idea because I thought it would compliment the upcoming TdV. I've been busy wrapping up an extra-busy semester, so I didn't have as much time to think about this as I thought I would - I would have opened this thread earlier if I knew.

Anyway, I'll send out promised Viz in a bit (and I'll keep it open for anyone else). Thank you guys!
