Because apparently it would cause a lot of controversy with politicians. Plus there's always going to be that idiot mom and dad who buy the game for the child. The child is scarred for life. And media watchdogs hound on it.

I understand that maybe they should even tho I wouldnt be too interested in them, I mean they should and maybe sell them in porn shops, or under the counters or maybe like magazines have the covers sealed up from view, i don't know but they prolly don't because video games are mainly aimed at children even though adults play too, theres alot of contreversay that comes with it so I'm sure its a little of everything...

my understanding is that in the days of like commodore and dos there were magazines you could special order adult games form. that would be neat but as xfighter said would cause controversial issues.

Games actually can get AO ratings, the problem is that all stores refuse to stock them, which leads to bad sales.

Don't blame ESRB, blame the stores.

Bingo. Plus, this is in no way related to the ESRB, even if stores did stock them, the lack of AO games would be due to the developers not putting in AO worthy content. Seriously, how could it be the ESRB's fault unless they were rating games that should be AO down to M. Not like I care, but there are your reasons.

Console games are not allowed to have an AO rating because Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft don't allow it. I'm sure stores would have no problem selling/renting these out since a lot of them have x rated movies as well.

That's not true Many Large chain stores such as Wallmart refuse to sell Adult content, heck they have refused many of the Simply M rated games and most adult movies are also unavailable at their stores. Also Adults have stopped looking at ratings as important. that's hwy I voted for the return of the X rating back int eh one poll earlier.. ((too bad its thread closed)).

The X rating is Widely known, universal, and An instant red flag for any parents for adults. Lets also point out that many families with the M rated games, have hte parents getting games for themselves,, with the kids watching or playing themselves either without the parent knowing.. or when the parents not paying attention.

My primary thought is that Games of a certain rating should require proven permission form the Parent to obtian the video game. I knwo its a hassle to many, but more rules shoudl be in place. Lets treat the Adult games like adult movies..

Can't rent that R/Nc 17 movie?
then you cant get that M rated video game.
More rules, and guidelines should be required for things like this.. It will also help get the politicians off gamer's backs. Cause then we can point at it and go., "LOOK we know.. we took care of it.. now shut the hell up."

Though One of the things they complained about was Modded games, which are F-ing impossible to control really.. though the fact anyone would willingly BREAK and hack their video game system for something as stupid as an extra scene in a Grand theft auto game.. is beyond me.

By "breaking" my Wii I have made it so that it runs all of my games from a USB harddrive, I want a new game? Just download and install to the hard drive don't even have to burn a DVD. I can also play modded levels of NSMWii that I download from the internet without even restarting the game AND play with new characters in brawl.

Yeah, "breaking" my Wii was a huge mistake.

Edit: OH AND my Wii is far more safe from becoming bricked by this than yours.

Yeah, stores/consoles care too much about the money to sell AO rated games. I guess nowadays, money overrules everything, even video games and their ratings (Sadly;_

Games are capable of getting AO rating, like everyone has been saying, but usually that requires nudity and sexual content. The game makers will edit and alter their games if ESRB gives it AO, since AO doesn't get stocked in many stores and doesn't sell, since a parent may buy their 12 year old an M game (as can be seen by playing any M game online, you get a whole whack of little kids), but parents generally won't buy an AO game for their children. The game being AO is usual a death sentence, so game makers alter their game and make deals with the raters and have, I've heard (but not from any source I could cite or remember right now, so maybe it isn't true), taken bribes and received certain deals and promotions in exchange for changing their rating to be M instead of AO. I'm not sure of the truth of this, but I wouldn't doubt it.

It is all the parents' problems. The government should leave off bothering video games and let today's lazy ass parents do some actual parenting for once. There should be AO rated games for adult gamers, such as myself. I'm not looking for nakedness or anything, I just want to have the CHOICE to buy a game like that if I so choose.
The government just starts taking away our rights and choices. I can't stand it.

On a paper that comes with the ps2 it says it's a rating, but they never put it on a game. Probably no store would won't to sell a game like that.

I don't understand why the AO and M rating aren't just the same. Are you seriously telling me that a game that is for people 17 years of age and older are perfectly acceptable for a 17 year old, but a game for 18 and up isn't? Are these game raters seriously telling me that games like The Suffering and Manhunt are more acceptable for a child to play than Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas assuming you hack into the game to get the intercourse mini game? This only include visable intercourse though. In God of War there is also an intercourse mini game, but that's perfectly okay because it's off screen, even though everybody who should be playing God of War to begin with would know what's going on, especially with all the topless woman seen throughout the game.

The fact that a parent would look at an M rated game and decide that it's a good game for their 12 year old kid, but would look at an AO rated game and think otherwise makes my head hurt. Just lump the ratings together already. If you must, put warning labels on the top of the game case much like the warnings on a cigarette pack where you can't miss what horrors await your child should you buy the game for them.

This topic strikes a nerve with me if you haven't noticed. :p

They've started to clamp down on the Violence and Sex Content in Video Games, the consoles always found "M rated games are bad enough".

They don't make AO rated because it would cause a lot of controversy especially with politicians, also stores wouldn't sell them either. I've also read some where that Microsoft and Sony would never liscence an AO rated game.
