They tried to bring this formula back with Bloodstained. They tried to go back to those Castlevania roots. I played through the game and was left wanting. I didn't really like the design style and look. It felt too "cartoony" and a little unrealistic. I think they put things into the game that didn't really need to be there, and tried to hard to the point it almost failed.

I did enjoy the PS2 Castlevania games "Curse of Darkness" and "Lament of Innocence". I think they had good story and game play. I liked the mechanics and they also had some great music! I couldn't, however, get into Lords of Shadows as much. The first one felt really dry and you weren't even in the castle. I played Mirror of Fate for the 3DS and it seemed better, but still wasn't quite what I was looking for. I have yet to play Lord of Shadows 2, but it's on my list. I'm just hoping it's better than the first 2.
