I've never purchased one before, nor do I really understand the point of doing so. You can still find ROMs online to play, why spend money on an actual cartridge that may or may not work? I just don't really understand the point of intentionally buying a product that you know is illegitimate.

Also, amazing typo in the title lmao.

I have a “hack” version of Pokémon sapphire. I was trying to buy Pokémon blue, and there was someone I knew who claimed to own it, so I asked him if I could buy it. He said yes, and when we met, he gave me a Japanese version of Sapphire...that was fake.

So not only did I get a fake cart, I got the wrong game overall.

But no I wouldn’t buy one, unless really cheap, if I knew what I was buying.

I love buying hacks on cartridge, it's cool being able to actually play the stuff on actual hardware, espeically good hacks like Pokemon Glazed or Light Platinum. However, it's somewhat weird because of the fact that it would take a lot of money to produce them for how little they would sell. That's why I always look for them and buy them up if I can.

I haven't seen these in a long time, like more than 15 years, but I do like them. In fact I like them on cartridge a lot more than playing them online.

You just have to make sure that it actually works.

zanderlex : Yeah, I've seen that happen before. I once got a beta version of Chaos Black on a cartridge and couldn't get through Mt. Moon since it was blocked off. I luckily got through it by using a Gameshark but you shouldn't need that to get through the game. That's the only instance I've ever seen that happen though, every other game I've purchased has been pretty good, those being Perla, Flora Sky, and Blue Sea. I love these hacks and getting to play them on actual hardware is the best.

It's super cool, yes. But, you can buy a flash cart for the same price, and just load it on. They work just fine. I have one for my 3DS, it's not great at all. But that's because I bought a bad product, from a scam company.

I wouldn't. My friend did this once and the game just kept crashing so since then I'm just not interested in this kind of stuff. I almost got scammed once as a kid trying to buy Pokemon Crystal in some little market area and last minute I decided to pull out bc I thought my dad would get mad at me. I didn't know this until later but when I looked up Pokemon Crystal many years ago I saw that the actual cartridge looked different to the one they had, so they just put a fake picture/sticker or something on the cartridge to trick little Pokemon fans like myself.

And you can always just download them as ROMs and play them on emulators. It's free, and most of the time they get released on forums here and there anyway so there's usually a download link close by. Of course with Nintendo going savage the last couple years the creators have to be more careful but there's always a way to get the game.
