In recent times, I've been looking at some really old games which led me to look into a bunch of abandonware sites. Turns out that some really good games I used to play as a kid are now freely available for download as abandonware. The House of The Dead 1, 2, and 3 plus Typing of The Dead are available. Even Black And White 1 and 2, and Stubbs The Zombie are just freely available now. My question to you now is this- What games do you think will be considered abandonware in about 10 years?

At this point, it might be all of them outside of the ones that end up getting re-released. Abandonware is still an odd term that technically doesn't have any legal basis, so it essentially ends up being a label for software that's old or whose company has gone under where you won't see any repercussions for just downloading a copy of it. Personally, abandonware is just fine unless they're actually selling it in some form, like with some abandonware sites hosting Commander Keen games despite an entire collection of them being available for sale on Steam.

Anything by Sega. Sega is seemingly one of the most chilled out companies as far as their intellectual property goes. They don't really seem to care much at all about emulation, and instead of trying make a buck by reselling old games, they put up ad-funded downloads for some of their bigger Genesis games. Putting out their games as free to play with a little bit of advertising seems a much, much more reasonable approach than putting out plug and plays and milking it for everything its worth and then some.
