Target has made it clear that they want to start veering away from 3DS games as everyone buys the Switch and Switch games.

Let's get one thing clear. Target, like Wal-Mart and Best Buy, is not Gamestop. They aren't going to sell pre owned games. They aren't going to sell games for older systems like the PS3, XBox 360, and DS. They don't even sell all of the newest games. You walk into Target and for any system you might only find 30 to 50 of the biggest hits.

You also won't find them cheap, they will almost always be full price outside of sales. That's where the end of the 3DS lifespan comes in. Recently a Target spokesman said on Twitter that in 2019, Target will be shifting more focus to the Switch and VR. That means weaning out the 3DS games. That also means that many of the 3DS games are now being thrown in the bargain bin.

Starting this month and until who knows when, Target is discounting many of their 3DS games until they are out of stock or until there's a resurgence in popularity. For example, if you wanted a copy of Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon, a pre owned copy would cost you $19 at Gamestop but at Target it costs just $5.

Supposedly nearly 50 games are on sale. You can manually search Target to see which ones are on sale but this article has an accurate representation.

This doesn't surprise me. Like you said, Target isn't GameStop. Video games only make up a small portion of their sales. With the 3DS becoming obsolete as new games are made for the Switch instead, it makes sense for Target to discontinue the sale of 3DS games. I appreciate the heads up about the sale, or at least I would if I had a 3DS lol.

tgags123 : It's sad though because unsold products go right back to the manufacturer to be vaulted or destroyed, never to be seen again. At least in a gamestop or personal game store, they just stay until they're sold and there's always interest.

Thank you for the heads up. I can't say I didn't see this coming, but it's still no less saddening to see 3DS games go. It's definitely going to take some adjusting to not see at least a small section dedicated to 3DS games in stores like Wal-Mart, Best Buy, and Target.

On a more positive note, I will definitely be browsing the 3DS sections of the aforementioned stores in search of anything that catches my eye. There are quite a few 3DS games I've wanted to buy for a while now, so this may just be the best time to take action. I'm hoping that at least some of the games I want are included in the sale.

Some of the games I've been wanting to buy include: Zelda: A Link Between Worlds, Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon, Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past, Fire Emblem Conquest, and a couple more I can't think of at the moment. Thankfully, and to my surprise, it looks like nearly all of the games I want are on some form of sale. I think I might just make a trip to Target tomorrow before heading to class in the morning. 

Oh man this would be great if I actually had any money to spare. Hopefully there's still some left for me by time I get my next paycheck (in 2 weeks). I'm glad they are doing this I've been hoping for the 3DS to just be cast aside to die for a while now...

Huh...I actually have a Target nearby. I guess I know what I'll be doing soon...Huge collection of 3DS games to buy and then emulate, here I come!

I guess I do understand this decision, considering the 3DS is nearing the definitive end of its life. I just hope that whatever new 3DS games that come out do still get physical releases when applicable.

I'm already trying to bring my friends to Target tonight so that we can stock up on games. Gonna get as many as we can in the same kind of rush as post apocalyptic looters.

I'm pissed and apparently Target is getting rid of their 3DS games much quicker that I thought. I was gonna go back and get a few games but nearly all of the games that were just on sale aren't even on the website anymore.

Normally you'll still find the page. It will just say out of stock or it will give you a list of locations that have them. Not here, for the dozens of games that dropped to $5 including Mario, Luigi, and Shin Megami Tensei games, those games are completely gone from the site.

Hopeful that some locations still have a few copies left. The hunt begins.

I wish I had seen this when it happened, I would've totally picked up basically everything I was missing in my 3DS collection. Oh well, I'll just get them later on after I beat the other 350 games I have listed for older consoles...

Well, the 3DS has been fading more and more in the terms of interests that other has, especially after the release of Super Smash Bros Ultimate, and also, more gaming companies rather go with the much newer system, and the Switch has been out for nearly two years, which basically is "enough time" for gamers to switch to the Switch (no pun attended), at least according to the game developers.
I know a few gamers out there still to this day doesn't own a Nintendo Switch, which I understand the complaints that others has.

Looking back to the Nintendo DS days, they were still games being developed for the DS in 2013, which is two years after the 3DS came onto the market, mostly because of the Pokemon franchise, once Pokemon moved to the 3DS, that is when the DS was no more.

I know that Nintendo has one more 1st Party 3DS game planned and that is Kirby's Extra Epic Yarn (releasing on March 8th, 2019), other than that, Nintendo doesn't have any more 1st Party games planned.
