(Me while making this thread: "Which forum should I post this thread in? General Chat? Sports? Is poker a sport? No, obviously poker isn't a sport... but it is on ESPN... ok fine I'll post it in the Sports forum.")

I've been really into poker for about a year now, primarily No Limit Texas Hold 'em. My roommate last fall introduced me to it, and I've been hooked ever since. I've spent countless hours studying the game, watching clips on YouTube, watching hand analysis from pros like Doug Polk and Daniel Negreanu, and, of course, playing the game. I joined the poker club at my college last semester, and became the first person in the club's history to win two tournaments in one semester when I won the October Tournament and the Fall Heads Up Tournament back-to-back. Unfortunately I'm only 19 so I can't go to Vegas or Atlantic City yet, but I've still managed to make a decent amount of money playing in home games up at school.

Anyone else on Vizzed play poker? I'd love to have someone else to talk to about it (or potentially play with if you live close to me.)

I've been a huge fan of Texas Hold Em for many years. I love playing it in person, I love playing online, and I even played for hours in Red Dead Redemption II.

zanderlex : Do you play for money online? If so, where? I used to play on Global Poker, but they changed their payment system and now my bank rejects the transaction whenever I try to add money with my debit card. The only other place you can play online in New York that I know of is Ignition, but I'm pretty sure they only accept Bitcoin, and I don't want to get involved with that.

I play. I actually did a few smaller tournaments when I lived in Seattle, but always lost due to my stupidity.

I won't play for money online, but I'll play for money in person. I'd love to get a game together, and maybe put some Viz on the line if we had enough people interested.

I can't say I have much interest in doing it competitively, but I personally do enjoy playing poker here and there. 5 card, texas hold em, and blackjack are all fun.

I wouldn't say I'm particularly good at it, though, and I never bet actual money.

So, while I do play it, I don't play it very seriously. I ain't much for gambling.

tgags123 : Nah I don't play for money. I'm still not that great and I still don't like the legality about it.

I love bitcoin and I'm technically rich in it. Ive been using those sites that pay you like 1/10,000 of a bitcoin a day for a couple years and when bitcoin went to like almost 20,000 at the end of 2017 I pooled everything from all the sites and had 0.7 bitcoin.

I haven’t played for money, but I have played for things like snacks and such. I’ve been pretty into poker for the last 3 or 4 years, and I’ve found some friends who occasionally get together to play.

I’m not exactly a professional at it to any means, but I know what I’m doing and can fare pretty well. If we’re getting together a Viz poker game, you can count me in on that.

And I do play Texas Hold Em mainly

And, when I’m 21, I’ll go to Vegas and try my odds at a casino.

Do I play? Yes.

Am I good? Not really.

I haven't ever played for real money unless you count people bringing 5 bucks to a game and 1 person walks away with $20 at the end. I don't count that too much though. That's not real money.

I do enjoy the game and I kind of wish I had a weekly or even monthly game I could play with someone but that sort of thing isn't too common even at my age.

Sounds like we should host a Vizzed Poker Tournament for Viz.

I'll work on setting it up later today.

thing1 : Did you make any progress with that?

----

I actually just got home from one of the weirdest poker tournaments I've ever played in. My aunt's boyfriend plays every week at some club he is a member of, and when he heard that I won a couple of tournaments up at Binghamton, he invited me to go with him and play at the club. I was the youngest person there by about 40 years lol. Everyone was at least 60, a lot of military veterans and retired police officers. He told me before I went in "If they ask, tell them that you're 21. And don't bring your wallet in case they ask for proof. I can bullsh*t them." They didn't ask for my age, and they let me play no problem.

They played pretty much how you would expect old people to play. There was only one pre-flop raise the entire game from someone other than me. I saw people limp with AA, QQ, and AK, just to name a few. Almost every bet they made was a min bet, but they would call basically any raise if they had a pair. Essentially all I had to do was get rid of my bad hands (because bluffing against players like that doesn't work) and bet a ton with my good hands (because they call everything) and I was in good shape.

The weirdest part about the whole thing though, was they played until 9 PM, and at 9 the game just stopped, and whoever had the most chips was the winner. I don't really like that at all, you should play until one person has all of the chips. If you don't want it to go on too long, play a cash game instead of a tournament.

Anyway, I ended up coming in 2nd and winning $40, and they asked me to go back again next week lol. I might, it was easy money.

thing1 : PokerStars allows you to create groups, and then set up games within those groups. We use it for the club at my college. Only issue with that is that people need to download the program, and also have a certain amount of fake PokerStars money accumulated in order to play.
