While it's probably too late to implement in time for the upcoming TdV, this could be incorporated for any other future TdVs. Turning off CP multipliers will keep things fair for all users of the site, and will make it so that staff members don't have to hold back what they can do in the competition. 

The only way this would work without people making a fuss over it is if the staff members all got the extra CP back at the end of each TDV which might be a lot of work.

But as it stands now, there's already a good chunk of staff actions that don't count in the TDV anyway. We could always just add to that.

For example my role never counts for Red.

When I'm into it, I average like 1000 CP A week adding games but it never gets added for Red.

While it would be a good idea to even the playing field, the multipliers are for everybody who have done a lot CP wise for the site. We already ignore all of the staff actions.

I still like the idea of making it all posting again...that was more even to begin with.

zanderlex : You do realize it'd be perfectly possible for staff to get the regular amount of CP they usually get without having the extra CP count towards the TdV, right?

While turning off the multipliers completely for TdV might cause some fuss, just having the extra CP not count would make it more fair and staff still get their normal amount of CP.

Staff already has a huge advantage over non-staff in the TdV, which most likely turned normal users from competing. Lexatom has had personal experience with how winning a TdV without being staff was basically an uphill, unfair battle from start to finish. This would be a step in the right direction, and hopefully make more people be enticed in competing.

I'd also like to recommend doing something about the higher staff CP action limits compared to regular users.

Edit: forgot that CP multipliers applied to anyone with enough CP. Still you can ignore the extra CP and not have it count for red and staff usually have more CP by default from having to reach their quotas.

Barathemos : Not all staff actions are excluded from TDV scoring. I took a couple green jerseys by adding information to stuff in the Video Game Music Room. I doubt that's the only thing that doesn't count, either. I believe I also recall getting points in Green just by adding lots of keywords to threads without them.


Furthermore, another issue that should be addressed is that staff+ forum posts count towards blue and our credit caps for each higher rank is so much higher than that of the lower ranks. If both a global and a local made 400 posts, not counting staff+ forum posts, the local would only get credit for half of it.

ZeroTails : That's how it's done now so I don't see why more stuff should be added. Just stop the remaining 5 or 6 staff actions from counting and call it a day, then no staff actions would count.

And I forgot about Patreon multipliers, which only makes the competition even more unfair.

Point is, the CP multiplier is a clear advantage in the red jersey and making it so only the base CP counts would fix that problem. People are supposed to be on equal playing grounds.

It might be unpopular opinion here, but I feel like the CP system as a whole has mostly outlived its usefulness. There may be a certain satisfaction in being able to see a big number that represents your achievements and contributions, but I get the feeling it was largely put in place for the purpose of keeping track of staff activity and quota. With newer features being put in place, such as the Video Game Music Room, we see other issues with the CP system even outside the TDV.

I think we should scrap the CP system altogether and come up with a new, better way of tracking activity. If we did scrap it, we'd let everyone keep their current CP number since they earned that, but I feel like we need a new system for the new direction of the site.

Lots of things do not count as contribution, for instance, if I spend 8 hours coding a feature I get ZERO CP for that! If I spend 8 hours browsing this site without doing anything I get no CP for that. There are other things too that do not count. I also don't get why one would earn more CP for the same exact action. CP multiplier should never have been created as it says your contributions are worth more then so and so even if they were to do the same exact task.

If I were to replace or redo the CP on this site I'd make each action or task EQUAL amount of points. We'd rely on hard numbers (1 per task) instead of inflating the value of each action individually and giving them wacky numbers and multipliers.

JigSaw : I feel like the number of points an action is worth should be equivalent across all ranks, but some actions should be worth more points just by the fact that a lot of actions may take more time and effort to complete with any level of quality. Consider that standards for regular, casual, chatty posts are lower than that of a walkthrough that may take a month or more to complete. Those standards should be reflected in the action's payouts.


EDIT - Also, I feel you with stuff not being counted at all, especially towards a quota. When I was uploading soundtracks, I needed to add meta data to the MP3 files before I could upload them, and finding and adding the info was 3/4 of the work.

I'm okay with certain things giving a Viz boost but I'm with Jigsaw on this one - getting extra CP for doing the EXACT same thing makes no sense.

However, turning it off the day before the TdV starts is next to impossible....

Barathemos : I like the idea of all post again. However, I think the CP jerseys now are a good idea too.
I've been mentioning it for a year or two now, but I think we should bring back the old jerseys for a total of 6. However, you can only get points for 4 of the 6. I think you should have to decide which 4 you'll get points for by a certain time, but that might be too hard to do, and hurt people. So perhaps, just the 4 that you have the highest ranking in. Only problem with that is if you are 2nd in all 6 jerseys, how and who gets to decide which 4 you get credit for, becaues that means that people in the other 2 jerseys are going to get bumped up.

thing1 : Maybe before the month even starts you pick the 4 jerseys you'd like to get points for and then keep it like that for the entire month?

That sounds interesting and would turn the TDV into a huge game of strategy.

Or maybe it picks based on how you performed for the day which jersey you get points in? So if you get 4 points in 4 of them and 2 points in 2 of them then you would get points in the 4 jerseys you scored highest.

That would be a bit complicated to code but it would be possible.
