Hello,

Who here is a chess player? I have recently fallen in love with it all over again, as I used to play years ago.

If anyone likes to play, let me know, maybe we can play online some time.

Also, if you have any interesting chess stories, share them!

I am so intrigued by chess. I love watching chess games/play by play explanations and trying to find out the best move alongside the actual player. The whole concept of the game is just great imo, every chess match is entertaining. Also chess puzzles (stuff like checkmate in 3) are my favorite kind of puzzles.

I wouldn't say I'm good at actually playing chess myself though. My friends think I am but that's because they don't know how any of the pieces even move. In fact I think I've only won like 2 games against "skilled" opponents.

One of which I'm really proud of and happened on a school trip. This one teacher was challenging every student to a game of chess (I guess to boost his ego idk we were like 14) and was winning every game. I was at the back of the row so once he got to the guy in front of me and eventually myself he started putting on a blindfold to handicap himself. We started playing and he was clearly the better player but at one point he moved his queen to A-5 to check my king. To me it seemed really dumb because he had forgotten about my pawn on B-6 (I guess he thought I moved it two spaces at the start) so I just casually took that queen. After that he started panicking because we had already traded so many pieces at that point that the odds of him coming back were small. He ended up resigning and I looked like a badass haha

I really enjoy playing chess but I don't have too many people to play against that are good enough to be a real challenge.

I had a friend whose Dad was so good he played an entire classroom full of kids at the same time and only lost to his son. That's about 30 games of chess at the same time. Each kid got enough time to make a move while waiting for him to move around the class and have 5 seconds at each table to make his move.

I would still consider myself a good amateur. I don't really understand the game at all. I've watched a handful of videos about real chess strategy and it goes over my head. There are definitely levels to the game I haven't even considered.

I'm not that big a fan of chess nor am I any good at it either. There was this person who taught me how to play a few weeks ago and every week we would play for a bit during appointments. I lost a lot for years. Other than those games though, I rarely played outside of a few mobile games against my phone.

If I had my own board and people who liked to play I might end up playing more often though.

I used to be a pretty dedicated chess player. I was part of a youth club and was one of the highest ranked players in that region and age bracket. I eventually quit because most of the people I played with at my club were noticeably younger than me which felt awkward. Now I'm out of shape as that was several years ago.I've thought about rejoining as a senior but other activities have kept me busy. I could see myself trying to get back into it at some point though.

I like Chess but it's not something I could ever really play a whole lot of in one sitting. That's probably why I'm also not particularly good. I can't really get into the meta game where they're planning 15 moves ahead and, while I do plan moves ahead, I'm mostly just winging plans from turn to turn. My dad was second in his high school chess tournament, and he was taught by his older brother, who he has trouble beating. My uncle taught my cousins, who managed to beat me in three turns once...

I have absolutely no idea how to play chess, I only know what checkmate means. I tried to learn a long time ago, but I either wasn't paying attention or I didn't understand it. I'm way more of a checkers person, anyway. I have won a couple small checkers tournaments back in like 2012.

Lexatom : Chess actually isn't a terribly complicated game. It's a lot like checkers except you have a lot more variety of pieces and they all do something different. Think of it like the world's first tactical RPG. A little bit simpler than Fire Emblem or something.

If you want, I can teach you the basics sometime. I had thought about trying to hist a few chess games on Vizzed, but I wasn't terribly sure how well I could pull that off.

I'm not an avid chess player, but I do have a chess-related story that I can share.

When I was CIT (counselor in training) at a summer camp that I went to for years, one of my campers asked me and my friend to play chess with him. The kid was six or seven years old. Neither me nor my friend has a ton of chess experience, but we both knew how to play and were both pretty smart people. We agreed to play him. I played him first, and thought it would be easy because of how young the kid was. He destroyed me. When I told my friend he laughed at me, and then he played the kid after, with the intent to "show me how it's done." He got destroyed as well.

m0ssb3rg935 :

I'd appreciate that. I've always wanted to learn but didn't know how to ask anyone to teach me haha.

But I wanted to teach Lex!

If anyone is interested in playing online with me, I use the site gameknot.com, if you make an account there, my username is lightknight22. Let me know if any of you do, and we can set up a game.

When I was much younger, I participated on the chess team at my elementary school. I wasn’t too good at it, but I wasn’t horrible. There always seemed to be kids who knew plans on how to win in every scenario and I could never overcome that. I still play chess sometimes, but I do prefer checkers, probsbly because I’m better at it.

I used to play a lot of chess in my school days I learned what it was about. I was very good at it too I played against some people and won if I am not mistaken I played one chess match tournament and I was in the top 5. This was very long ago. Its sad because with chess I stopped playing it and I can not remember why if I were to pick it up again I have to work my way back to getting the skills I lost for it.
